Abstract:
Data generated at a telecommunications network switching node is selectively delivered to one or more data receiving device (e.g., data “collection box”) connected to the network, and command and control signaling is transmitted from the data receiving device to the switching node. This bi-directional communication is carried out in a manner compatible with voice grade lines. In an exemplary application, call identifying information, referred to in the TIA/EIA Standard as CDC (Call Data Channel) Messages, is delivered from an Intercept Access Point (IAP) switch that provides telephone service to a subject of an authorized surveillance order, to a law enforcement data collection box, utilizing Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) signals. Control signals are sent from the data collection box to the IAP switch utilizing Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) signaling. The state of the art is advanced, and a contribution is made to law enforcement and other fields, as the invention allows replacement of costly and lengthily provisioned data delivery circuits, such as ISDN lines or private digital data circuits, with widely available and less expensive voice-band data delivery equipment.
Abstract:
A stored-value product includes a toy automobile and a panel. The toy automobile includes a body and wheels rotatably coupled to the body. The panel is coupled to the body and includes an account identifier signifying a financial account or record linked to the stored-value card assembly. Stored-value product assemblies, methods of promoting sales of stored-value products, methods of using a stored-value product and other embodiments are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Methods of fabricating electromagnet assemblies are disclosed. In one embodiment, a includes forming a first helix and a second helix, each helix having a first end and a second end and a substantially oval cross-section, the cross-section having a major axis, each helix being configured to concentrate electromagnetic flux at a midpoint on the major axis. Each helix is bent at an angle and offset from the major axis, resulting in a first planar surface including the major axis and a second planar surface. The first and second helixes are oriented such that the outer edges of the respective second planar surfaces coincide and the outer edges of the respective first planar surfaces are in diametric opposition. The first and second helixes are affixed by their respective second planar surfaces, and electrically connected by their respective second ends.
Abstract:
Apparatus and a method for serving telecommunications customers, using the transmission capabilities of a Packet Network. A customer having Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) that includes a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)/Gateway for communicating with a Packet Network, is connected to a port of the Packet Network. The customer is connected to the Gateway of a Home Switch via the Packet Network, and is also connected to Gateways of one or more Guest Switches. The customer has telephone numbers in the Home Switch and each of the Guest Switches. Callers can call the customer as if that customer were directly served by the Home Switch or any of the Guest Switches. Advantageously, the customer and callers to that customer are billed only for the short, usually local, call rate from the selected Home or Guest Switch. Advantageously, the customer can make outgoing calls dynamically via any of the Guest Switches.
Abstract:
An electromagnet assembly for supplying a region of concentrated electromagnetic flux is provided. The assembly includes a flat strip of an electrically conductive metal. The strip has a first and a second opposite planar surfaces at least one of which is covered by a dielectric material. The strip has first and second end portions. The strip is wound in a coil including at least one first loop and one second loop and disposing the second opposite planar surface in the first loop substantially adjacent the first opposite planar surface in the second loop. The coil is disposed about an axis of symmetry configured to concentrate electromagnetic flux at a midpoint on the axis of symmetry. First and second electrical terminals are connected at the first and second end portions, respectively.
Abstract:
A system and method for utilizing suppressed ringing with a plurality of communication devices. The system creates a suppressed ringing signal, at a remote computer, for at least one of the plurality of communication devices, implements a protocol to direct the suppressed ringing signal to the communication device through a private network and transmits the suppressed ringing signal from the remote computer, through the private network, to the communication device.
Abstract:
A server (102, 204, 208) communicates with a modem, computer or other data communications device (104) to provide, for example, an information delivery service. The server produces multiple channels of data for delivery. The server uses multiple telephone lines to create a high-speed communications channel when necessary. Suppressed ringing connections are made from the server to facilitate data communications over the multiple lines of the multiple channels of data produced by the server.
Abstract:
Apparatus for switching full rate (e.g., 64 kilobit per second) signals and composite signals comprising a plurality of subrate signals (e.g., 32 kilobit per second subrate signal). The apparatus includes a unit for compressing selected ones of a plurality of full-rate signals into a smaller plurality of full-rate single and composite signals, and apparatus for decompressing composite signals into a plurality of full-rate signals. The main elements of the switching fabric of the switch continue to switch full-rate signals. Advantageously, during periods of heavy load, the switching network fabric of a switching system can carry more calls, and more traffic can be carried between switches equipped for subrate switching.
Abstract:
An arrangement for routing the possibility of switching telephone users to another preferred carrier without the intent of the telephone user. When a record has been made in a data base indicating a change of preferred carrier, the telephone user is provided with an announcement indicating the change when the user makes a toll call. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention the user simply is informed and if the user wants to undo the change the user contacts the local carrier. In accordance with another embodiment the user is provided with a validation code and must enter the validation code in order to effect the change of carriers. In accordance with another embodiment the user is provided with a number of options including the keying of a request to effect the change of carrier, or cancel the change of carrier. Advantageously, users are informed of a change of carrier before they make any calls using the new carrier and before they receive any telephone bills identifying the change.
