Abstract:
A network switch, configured for performing layer 2 and layer 3 switching in an Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) network without blocking of incoming data packets, includes a network switch port having a packet classifier module configured for evaluating an incoming data packet on an instantaneous basis. The packet classifier module performs simultaneous comparisons between the incoming data stream of the data packet and multiple templates configured for identifying respective data protocols. Each template is composed of a plurality of min terms, wherein each min term specifies a prescribed comparison operation within a selected data byte of the incoming data packet. Hence, the packet classifier module is able to monitor data flows between two network nodes interacting according to a prescribed network application. The packet classifier module determines the application state for a prescribed network application from a received layer 2 data packet, enabling switching logic within the network switch to utilize application-specific aging intervals for respective network applications such as HTTP, SNMP, ftp, Telnet, etc. in order to delete aged address entries from a network switch address table based on the supported network application. Determination of the application state from the received layer 2 data packet also enables the network switch to detect the end of a data flow for deletion of the corresponding address entry from the network switch address table.
Abstract:
Collision delay intervals are modified in Ethernet network devices by transmitting priority data requiring a guaranteed latency by determining an integer multiple number of slot times, randomly selected from a predetermined range of integers, where the range of integers is independent from the number of access attempts. A network device having priority data for transmission randomly selects a collision delay interval to be either zero or one slot time for a predetermined number of access attempts. If the number of collisions encountered by the network station exceeds the predetermined number, the integer is selected from a range of integers calculated from a shifted exponential number of the access attempts, resulting in a smaller range than used for normal priority traffic. Use of the collision mediation for high priority traffic on a half-duplex Ethernet network provides a bounded access latency for real-time and multimedia applications by granting the network device a higher probability of successfully accessing the network media.

In a television receiver having a chrominance signal channel coupled to a cathode ray tube, an automatic peak color control circuit includes an envelope detector means providing a combined chroma envelope and DC potential, a means for shifting the level of the combined chroma envelope and DC potential, a means for detecting the peak level of the chroma signal, and a means for comparing the detected peak chroma signal level and a reference potential level to provide a control signal for maintaining application of a substantially constant level of chroma signal to the cathode ray tube.
Abstract:
There is disclosed herein a modified Tungsten-Inert Gas welding process for joining relatively thick high-strength steel plates by depositing multiple layers of weld metal in a groove between the plates. For each layer, the arc voltage, arc current and feed rate of filler material are adjusted to provide uniform heat input to the weld for varying size weld deposits. The weld layers formed from the successive passes extend along the length and across the width of the weld groove, and are of substantially uniform thickness. The top one or two weld layers may be side-byside weld deposits which extend along the length of the joint and overlap intermediate the width of the groove. The weld groove is V-shaped and wide enough at its top to permit clearance of the welding electrodes when depositing the lowermost layer.
Abstract:
Threshold detection for load current on a bus involves generating an output current representative of the load current using a transconductance circuit, sampling the output current during a quiescent phase of the bus to produce a sample current, generating a compensation current that is proportional to the transconductance gain associated with the transconductance circuit, where the compensation current is a function of the sample current, combining the output current, the sample current, the compensation current, and a reference current representative of a threshold value for the load current to produce a combined current, and using a discriminator during an active phase of the bus to output a first value when the sum current exceeds the threshold value and a second value when the combined current is less than the threshold value.
Abstract:
A method of trimming a current source in an IC includes deriving a reference voltage from an external supply, and developing a measurement voltage across an external reference resistance receiving the current to be trimmed. An on-chip ADC is used to provide corresponding digital reference and digital measurement signals. A digital comparator compares the digital signals and provides a digital trim signal, which is used to adjust the current to be trimmed until the digital measurement signal is equal to the digital reference signal within an acceptable tolerance. Gain and offset errors in the ADC cancel and do not affect the calibration of the trim operation.

Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for detecting hydrocarbon ingestion into an engine based on the simultaneous monitoring of cylinder imbalance and an elevated exhaust exotherm. Crankshaft acceleration data is monitored during steady-state and transient engine conditions while exhaust temperatures are estimated during non-regeneration conditions. Engine speed and load is limited to reduce further hydrocarbon ingestion.

Abstract:
A method of automatically extracting data from an electronic document containing a plurality of layout features through progressive refinement is provided. The method includes: analyzing each document to automatically extract images and text features wherein each document includes at least two features that are related to each other, and wherein said analyzing compares extracted features with a first search space of candidate features to try and recognize the extracted features; if one of the at least two related features is not recognized and at least one feature is recognized, selecting a second search space of candidate features in response thereto and in response to predefined rules about the relationship between the two features; and comparing the unrecognized feature with said selected second search space.
