    Abstract: A stereo widening system and associated signal processing algorithms are described herein that can, in several embodiments, widen a stereo image with fewer processing resources than existing crosstalk cancellation systems. These system and algorithms can advantageously be implemented in a handheld device or other device with speakers placed close together, thereby improving the stereo effect produced with such devices at lower computational cost. However, the systems and algorithms described herein are not limited to handheld devices, but can more generally be implemented in any device with multiple speakers.

    Abstract: An apparatus for causing air flow to vibrate a selected tissue includes a tube and a deflector. The tube defines a passage for guiding air flow from an inlet to an outlet thereof. The deflector is disposed to receive the air flow from the outlet of the tube. The configuration of the deflector is such as to channel air flow from the outlet past the selected tissue. This causes vibration of the selected tissue.

    Abstract: A hand crank assembly system for spooling linear material onto a reel includes a reel drum onto which the linear material can be spooled and a lever pivotable about an axis. A torque transfer mechanism of the system has an engagement clutch that engages and transfers a torque when it is operated in a first rotational direction, but that does not operate nor transfer a torque when it is operated in a second rotational direction opposite the first rotational direction. The torque transfer mechanism converts the pivoting of the lever into the rotation of the reel drum in the first rotational direction regardless of the direction in which the lever is pivoted.

    Abstract: A depth processing system can employ stereo speakers to achieve immersive effects. The depth processing system can advantageously manipulate phase and/or amplitude information to render audio along a listener's median plane, thereby rendering audio along varying depths. In one embodiment, the depth processing system analyzes left and right stereo input signals to infer depth, which may change over time. The depth processing system can then vary the phase and/or amplitude decorrelation between the audio signals over time to enhance the sense of depth already present in the audio signals, thereby creating an immersive depth effect.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for adaptively processing speech to improve voice intelligibility are described. These systems and methods can adaptively identify and track formant locations, thereby enabling formants to be emphasized as they change. As a result, these systems and methods can improve near-end intelligibility, even in noisy environments. The systems and methods can be implemented in Voice-over IP (VoIP) applications, telephone and/or video conference applications (including on cellular phones, smart phones, and the like), laptop and tablet communications, and the like. The systems and methods can also enhance non-voiced speech, which can include speech generated without the vocal track, such as transient speech.
