Abstract:
Polyalkylated xanthenes are prepared by effecting reaction between an alkylated phenol such as m-cresol and an oxygenated organic material such as acetone in the presence of an acid catalyst such as methanesulfonic acid.
Abstract:
Copolysiloxanecarbonates are prepared in the melt by the reaction of a diaryl carbonate such as diphenyl carbonate with a mixture of a dihydroxyaromatic compound and a carbonate-terminated polydiorganosiloxane, the latter typically prepared by reaction of a diaryl carbonate or aryl chloroformate with a hydroxyorgano-terminated polydiorganosiloxane. By this method, incorporation of silicone units in the copolysiloxanecarbonate is maximized.
Abstract:
A carrier that is cantilevered from the trailer hitch of a motor vehicle includes a solid tongue that telescopically engages the trailer hitch and a hollow tube having a leading end that is secured to the trailing end of the solid tongue. About one-fifth the weight of the container is supported by the solid tongue, and about four-fifths of its weight is supported by the hollow tube. Gusset plates maintain the hollow tube at a slightly inclined angle with respect to the solid tongue so that the apparatus does not drag the road surface when bumps are encountered. In a second embodiment, the hollow tube is spaced above the solid tongue and the container sits atop the hollow tube. However, about one-fifth of the solid tongue is positioned below the hollow tube to support it and the container. In both embodiments, transverse frame members are secured to the tongue and tube, and in the second embodiment, longitudinal frame members interconnect opposite ends of the transverse frame members to further strengthen the carrier frame. The frame supports a box-like container having a lockable lid, and one side wall of the container is hinged to provide a ramp that allows a wheelchair to enter or exit the container when the side wall is swung open. An auxiliary ramp is used when a scooter is on or off-loaded.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses thermoplastic resins and methods for producing said resins utilizing a single component tertiary amine catalyst system. More particularly, the invention discloses resins such as high molecular weight polycarbonate resins that are produced by a solventless melt condensation reaction between diphenyl carbonate (DPC) and bisphenol A (BPA) in the presence of tertiary amine catalyst.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for treating a body of water to kill microorganisms by enhancing the concentration metal ions therein. The apparatus comprising a dispenser with a first housing having a water accessible compartment containing a source of a N-halohydantoin compound for releasing the N-halohydantoin compound when contacted by the body of water with the at least one N-halohydantoin having the formula: wherein R and R1 each independently comprises an alkyl group, and wherein X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of bromine, chlorine and hydrogen and a second housing having a water accessible compartment containing an insoluble metal ion donor for releasing metal ions when contacted by the body of water containing the N-halohydantoin.
Abstract:
A fast acting water purification system containing a source of silver ions which is suitable for use in personal or household water containers, where the non-potable water may contain halides or other materials that limit the solubility of silver in the non-potable water, with the purification agent including a source of silver ions and a compound containing a hydantoin ring increase the presence of silver ions in the non-potable water to a level sufficient to quickly kill harmful microorganisms in the non-potable water without the need to add additional biocides to the non-potable water or pretreat the non-potable water.

Abstract:
A multi-stage floatation dispenser for carrying a ballast, which may be a non-water consumable dispersant and at least one water consumable dispersant wherein the weight of the water consumable dispersant decreases as the water consumable dispersant is consumed with the weight of water consumable dispersant and the non-water consumable coordinated with the flotation capacity of a flotation dispenser to provide for either a two stage or a three stage dispensing mode.
Abstract:
A kit for increasing the capacity and versatility of an inline dispenser with the kit including a set of stackable dispenser cartridges and an extension for increasing the capacity of the system with the extensions having fasteners thereon for changing the capacity of the system without having to replace existing components of the system.
