    Abstract: A rotation transmission device includes inner and outer rings, a two-way clutch mounted between the outer and inner rings, and an electromagnetic clutch mounted adjacent to the two-way clutch. The electromagnetic clutch includes a rotor guide pressed onto the outer ring at its open end and a rotor pressed into the rotor guide. The rotor guide is made of a magnetic material having the same or substantially the same coefficient of linear expansion as the material of the rotor. Thus, even when the rotor guide and the rotor are heated and expanded, the interference between the rotor and the rotor guide remains substantially constant. Therefore, the rotor and the rotor guide can be reliably coupled together with a simple structure and at a low cost.

    Abstract: A one-way clutch is proposed which is low in surface pressures and durable. It includes an inner ring having a cylindrical outer surface, and an outer ring having a cylindrical inner surface defining a wedge-shaped space in cooperation with the cylindrical outer surface of the inner ring. A ring-shaped wedge member is disposed in the wedge-shaped space. The wedge member is formed with a cylindrical outer surface and a cylindrical inner surface having a center of curvature that is radially offset from the center of curvature of the cylindrical outer surface of the wedge member. A resilient member is provided between the inner ring and the wedge member to bias the wedge member in a direction to be wedged into the narrow portion of the wedge-shaped space. When the inner ring is rotated in one direction, the wedge member will be brought into wedging engagement with the cylindrical surfaces of the inner and outer rings. Torque is thus transferred from the inner ring to the outer ring.

    Abstract: The magnetic attraction force of an electromagnetic coil in an electromagnetic clutch is increased in a limited installation space, thereby improving reliability of operation. The dimensions of a field core housing the electromagnetic coil and a rotor are optimized to increase the magnetic attraction force. The thicknesses of cylindrical portions on the inner-diameter side of the field core and the rotor have larger thicknesses than those of cylindrical portions on its outer-diameter side so that the sectional areas of both cylindrical portions will be equal to each other. Also, a rotation transmission device provided with an electromagnetic clutch is proposed which can avoid deterioration of its sealing property and damage to its bearing and avoid cost increase.

In a rotation transmission device having a two-way clutch including rollers mounted between an inner member and an outer ring for selective transmission and non-transmission of rotation between the inner member and the outer ring, an electromagnetic clutch for controlling the locking and freeing of the two-way clutch, and a current control mechanism for controlling the locking and freeing of the two-way clutch, a current supplied to the current control mechanism is controlled based on an input signal from a sensor for detecting the load on the engine to shorten a delay in response until the two-way clutch locks after the supply of a current to the electromagnetic coil has begun and to prevent shocks during transition to 4WD.

    Abstract: A rotation transmission device is mounted in a drive train of a four-wheel drive vehicle to selectively distribute driving force to selected vehicle wheels according to the travel condition of the vehicle. This device includes an outer ring and an input shaft. A cylindrical face is formed on one of the opposed surfaces of the outer ring and the input shaft, while cam faces are formed on the other opposed surface to define a wedge-shaped space between the cylindrical face and each cam face. Rollers are mounted in pockets formed in a retainer mounted between the input shaft and the outer ring. An electromagnetic clutch is coupled to the retainer. A switch spring is mounted between the retainer and the input shaft. A two-way clutch is provided between the outer ring and the input shaft. A control unit controls the two-way clutch by adjusting the amount of current fed through a coil of the electromagnetic clutch according to the travel condition of the vehicle, thus selectively distributing driving force to selected vehicle wheels. A method of controlling the rotation transmission device is also proposed. Also, another transmission device is proposed which is mounted in the transfer of a vehicle.

    Abstract: A mechanical device to be mounted on a four-wheel drive vehicle capable of transmitting driving force to the rear wheels while the vehicle is being accelerated and cutting off the transmission of driving force to the rear wheels while being braked. This device has an inner member to be coupled in series with a differential or a limited slip differential device, and an outer ring. On the opposite surfaces of the inner member and the outer ring are formed a cylindrical surface and a plurality of cam surfaces, between which are defined wedge-shaped spaces. A retainer is provided between the inner member and the outer ring. It is formed with pockets to receive rollers as engaging elements. A turning effort imparting device is coupled to the retainer through a one-way clutch. A torsion coil spring for producing turning effort is mounted between the retainer and the inner member. When the one-way clutch is switched on or off, the direction of turning effort applied to the retainer changes, so that the direction in which the rotation of the retainer delays with respect to the inner member is reversed. The rollers are thus kept in one of the two opposite engageable positions when the inner member is rotating in either direction.

    Abstract: A magnetic load sensor unit is provided which can detect a load with a minute movement of its part, and which is durable and less likely to be influenced by temperature. The sensor unit includes a flange member (1) deflectable when an axial load is applied, a support member (2) supporting the flange member (1), a magnetic target (3) which generates a magnetic field, and a magnetic sensor (4) for detecting the magnetic field generated by the magnetic target (3).
