    Abstract: A mechanical diode to transfer torque between a first torque member and a second torque member is described, and includes a first race element, a second race element and a slide plate that are coaxially disposed in the housing. The slide plate includes a tab element projecting radially outwardly. The slide plate is rotatable to one of a first position and a second position. A spring element is disposed between the slide plate and one of the first and second race elements, and is configured to urge the slide plate to the first position. A controllable braking element is disposed to apply a braking force to the tab element of the slide plate to urge the slide plate to achieve the second position in response to a control signal.

    Abstract: A driving force transmission device includes: a clutch unit that connects and disconnects input and output shafts to and from each other; an annular electromagnet disposed so that it can rotate relative to a shaft body portion included in the input shaft; a rotor that faces one side in the axial direction of the electromagnet; an armature that faces one side in the axial direction of the rotor, that is disposed so that it can move in the axial direction, and that moves in the axial direction to engage and disengage the clutch unit; an internally threaded portion that is formed on the inner periphery of the rotor and engages with an externally threaded portion formed on the outer periphery of the shaft body portion; and a second elastic member that elastically presses the rotor screw-fitted on the outer periphery of the shaft body portion toward the electromagnet.

    Abstract: A front differential for a four wheel drive vehicle including a pinion assembly with first and second pinions that are engaged with a ring gear assembly with first and second ring gears. The first pinion and first ring gear combination are rotatable independent from the second pinion and second ring gear combination, thus permitting one to rotate relative to the other. The first pinion and first ring gear combination are adapted to rotate one driven shaft, and the second pinion and second ring gear combination are adapted to rotate the other driven shaft. A bi-directional overrunning clutch assembly is engaged with an end of the drive shaft and includes one set of rolls located adjacent to the first pinion shaft, and another set of rolls located adjacent to the second pinion shaft.     Abstract: A bi-directional clutch is provided having inner and outer members disposed about a rotational axis. One or more pawls are coupled to one of the members and configured for rotation about separate rotational axes. One end of each pawl moves between first and second engagement positions with corresponding engagement surfaces formed in the other member and a position of disengagement with the other member permitting relative rotation of the inner and outer members. A pair of magnets are disposed at the opposite end of each pawl with each magnet in the pair defining a pole adjacent the end of the pawl and the poles having opposite polarity. An electromagnetic actuator selectively generates electromagnetic fields of different polarities to urge the pawls away from the position of disengagement to one of the engagement positions to cause rotation of the other member in either rotational direction.
