Abstract:
A method of controlling a display apparatus displaying a picture according to an input video signal including a horizontal synchronous signal and a vertical synchronous signal includes setting one or more exclusive display modes, setting whether to apply an auto-adjustment function to the video signal, determining a display mode of the video signal according to the horizontal and vertical synchronous signals when the auto-adjustment function is set to operate, and performing the auto-adjustment function when the determined display mode is not equal to any one of the one or more exclusive display modes. The display apparatus and the control method thereof selectively perform the auto-adjustment function according to the display mode of the input video signal.
Abstract:
A second harmonic generation apparatus provides a polarization element transmitting only light polarized in an extra-ordinary axis direction on the proceeding path of a second harmonic emitted from a resonator. The light polarized in the extra-ordinary axis direction is transmitted to a beam splitter, and a part of the polarized light is fed back to a feedback circuit, so that the temperature of a non-linear birefringent crystalline element inside resonator can be stably controlled and the output second harmonic can be stably produced.
Abstract:
A second harmonic generation method and apparatus is capable of stabilizing an output. The apparatus provides a first beam splitter on the proceeding path of a second harmonic output, and other beam splitters on the proceeding path of the reflecting beam of the second harmonic and that of the transmitted beam. A second and third beam splitters are arranged on the proceeding paths of the second harmonic output and the beam separated from the second harmonic output to satisfy ##EQU1## where K is a constant, R.sub..parallel. is reflectivity with respect to p-polarization parallel to the incident surface of the first and second beam splitter, and R.sub..perp. is reflectivity with respect to s-polarization perpendicular to the incident surface of the first and second beam splitters.
Abstract:
A method for managing a broadcast receiving apparatus standby mode according to external signaling is provided. The method includes: generating a power management descriptor that a broadcast receiving apparatus refers to in order to perform a standby mode; and transmitting the generated power management descriptor to the broadcast receiving apparatus. Accordingly, since the broadcast receiving apparatus manages the standby mode more effectively, standby power consumed in the standby mode is further reduced and thus power saving effect can be achieved.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a multi-resonance tunable antenna having a plurality of variable resonance points. The multi-resonance tunable antenna includes at least two branch lines and at least two capacitors. The at least two branch lines branch from a branch point of a basic line, which is connected to a filter used to receive wireless signals, in different directions. The at least two capacitors are connected between the at least two branch lines and a grounding terminal.
Abstract:
An improved microscope stage mount with built-in fiduciary markers is used for fluorescence microscopy, and comprises: (a) an optically-transparent glass plate adapted for specimen mounting and microscope viewing and comprising a specimen mounting area; and (b) a defined and ordered, two-dimensional microscopic array of fiduciary markers, wherein the markers are polymeric pillars affixed to the plate about the specimen mounting area, wherein the markers provide a three-dimensional spatial reference for the specimen.
Abstract:
The invention provides a glucitol derivative having the function of reducing a blood sugar level and having preferable properties required of medicines, such as long-lasting drug activity; and a medicinal composition for use in the prevention or treatment of diseases attributable to hyperglycemia, such as diabetes, complications of diabetes, and obesity. The derivative is a compound represented by the formula (I): wherein m is an integer selected among 1-3; R1 to R4 each independently is optionally substituted alkyl, etc.; Ar1 is optionally substituted naphthyl; and A is optionally substituted heteroaryl, a prodrug of the compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of either. Also provided are a medicine, a medicinal composition, and the like each containing the compound.
Abstract:
A display apparatus having a display to display a picture, including an input unit, a data operator, a storage unit to store data about a gamma curve to be applied corresponding to an average input brightness of an input video signal, an auto-adjuster to adjust a position and a definition of the picture being displayed on the display, a gamma adjuster to adjust an output brightness of the picture being displayed on the display, and a controller to control the data operator to calculate picture adjustment data about optimum position and optimum definition based on synchronous signals and the input video signal when the input unit generates an input signal, and controlling the data operator to calculate the average input brightness of the input video signal and the gamma adjuster to adjust the output brightness of the picture on the basis of the data about the gamma curve to be applied corresponding to the calculated average input brightness from the storage unit while controlling the auto-adjuster to adjust the picture with respect to the picture adjustment data. Thus, a display apparatus and a control method thereof are provided, in which a gamma adjustment is implemented while an auto-adjustment is implemented.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method that controls a position of a caption. The apparatus includes: a caption processing unit, which identifies a non-signal area (B) including the caption using a control signal, identifies an image data area (A having the same size as the non-signal area (B), on a screen, and displays caption data of the non-signal area (B) on the image data area (A); a controller, which outputs a control signal positioning the captions to be lost in an enlarged presentation mode on the screen; and a signal processing unit, which performs image signal processing so that the caption data is displayed with predetermined images on the image data area (A).
