Abstract:
A string with a plurality of telescoping members has the telescoping members initially sealed preferably with a shape memory foam so that the foam is initially impervious when run into a subterranean location. Then, after extension of the telescoping members, using pressure in the string, the foam gets above its transition temperature and grows axially in a passage of the telescoping members, to the point of becoming porous so that it can serve as a sand control or other debris exclusion device. Plates with openings can be deployed at opposed ends to maintain the assembly in position when subjected to differential pressure as flow goes through the foam. Alternative materials are envisioned.
Abstract:
A valving device includes a tubular with a port and a sleeve slidably sealingly engaged with the tubular between a first position and a second position. The sleeve is configured to occlude the port when in the first position and uncover the port when in the second position. The valving device is configured such that pressure inside the tubular does not urge the sleeve toward the second position while pressure applied radially outwardly of the tubular and the sleeve urge the sleeve toward the second position.
Abstract:
An object including a housing, a cone movably received in the housing, a piston body attached to the cone, a valve disposed as a part of the object and separating hydrostatic pressure from pressure at an interface between the housing and the piston body, and a trigger configured to open the valve at a selected circumstance. A method for moving a selected downhole tool including running an object into a borehole, counting features in the borehole using a sensor in the object, opening the valve at a selected count, flooding the interface with hydrostatic pressure, driving the piston body away from the housing, and moving a radially expandable shoulder member toward a larger diameter end of the cone. A borehole system including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string disposed in the borehole, and an object disposed within or as a part of the string.
Abstract:
A frac dart including an electric counter in the frac dart, an inductor in the frac dart, in electrical communication with the counter, the inductor generating a voltage responsive to the dart moving through a magnetic field. A method for selectively landing a dart on a landing feature in a well including sensing a landing feature by generating an inductor signal with an inductor pursuant to the inductor passing through a magnetic field associated with the landing feature in the well. generating a count in an electrical counter of the dart responsive to the inductor signal, applying a count signal to a switch of the dart based upon the count, selectively passing the count signal to an activator or an actuator of the dart based upon switch position.
Abstract:
A frac dart including a pressure housing, a mechanical sensor disposed through the pressure housing, a contactor inside the pressure housing and in operable communication with the mechanical sensor, and an electrical counter disposed in the pressure housing and responsive in increments to movement of the mechanical sensor that closes the contactor.
Abstract:
An inflow test packer tool including a packer configured for fixed attachment to a string, a liner top mating member operably connected to the packer by a setting extension, the setting extension configured for setting the packer upon set down weight against a liner top through the liner top mating member, and a mandrel fixedly attached relative to the packer and extending through the liner top mating member to provide a weight bearing connection independent of the liner top mating member for additional downhole tools depending downhole of the packer and the liner top mating member.
Abstract:
An element including an undercut in the element extending from an innermost surface of the element radially outwardly into the element, and a pathway intersecting the undercut and extending from the undercut to an outermost surface of the element, the pathway fluidly connecting the outermost surface of the element to the undercut prior to setting of the seal.
Abstract:
An anchoring device comprises a degradable substrate; and a ceramic biting member secured to an outer surface of the degradable substrate and configured for engagement with another member, the ceramic biting member comprising a ceramic material which has a density of greater than about 90% of theoretical density and contains one or more of the following: Al2O3; MgO; CaO; SiO2; TiO2; Y2O3; ZrO2; SiC; BN, or Si3N4.
Abstract:
A plug system including a housing, a member movably disposed in the housing, a seat disposed at the member, the seat receptive to an object, and a flapper connected to the member and closable onto the member when the member is shifted by the object.
Abstract:
A downhole tool includes a setting cone having a body including an outer surface. The body has a first end, a second end and an intermediate portion. At least a portion of the body includes a taper at the second end. A passage extends through the body from the first end to the second end. An anchor is arranged at the second end. The anchor includes a first end section receptive of the setting cone and a second end section. A mandrel extends through the passage of the setting cone and the anchor. The mandrel includes a first end portion, a second end portion and an intermediate section. A bottom sub is arranged at the second end section of the anchor. The bottom sub includes a first member fixedly mounted to the mandrel and a second member that is shiftable relative to the mandrel.
