Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods provide synchronization of multiple voice-controlled devices to establish priority of one of the devices to respond to an acoustic signal, preventing other devices from responding to a single user command. Each device is configured to mediate its response to a wakeword by, after detecting the wakeword in an audio input, generating a data packet and attempting to send it to the other devices over a communication channel that prevents data collision. One device will succeed in sending the packet, while the other devices cannot until they receive the first device's packet, indicating that the first device has priority. Additionally, the devices may process their audio inputs to determine a signal quality, the signal qualities are shared between all devices, and the device with the best signal quality assumes priority.

Abstract: A system and method for network channel selection is provided. A device includes WIFI, ZIGBEE, and BLUETOOTH communication controllers. The device's processor is configured to determine, using the communication controllers, a WIFI channel designated for communications and a first set of ZIGBEE channels designated for communications. The processor is configured to determine that a number of available BLUETOOTH channels that do not overlap the WIFI channel or any in-use ZIGBEE channels is less than a threshold number of BLUETOOTH channels required for communication using a BLUETOOTH protocol. The processor then determines the WIFI channel has a minimum duty cycle from among duty cycles of the WIFI channel and each ZIGBEE channel, determines a first BLUETOOTH channel that at least partially overlaps the WIFI channel, and causes the BLUETOOTH communication controller to transmit data using the first BLUETOOTH channel.

Abstract: In various examples, audio received from a source device is shared from a first wireless earbud to one or more other wireless earbuds. For example, source-device settings are shared by the first wireless earbud with the one or more other wireless earbuds to facilitate synchronization and passive receipt of data transmitted by the source device. Once the wireless earbuds are synchronized, they may check in with one another in a coordinated manner to share packets that were missed when passively listening to the source device.

Abstract: A system and method includes a first audio-output device (e.g., a primary wireless in-ear device) connected to a second audio-output device (e.g., a secondary wireless in-ear device) using a first wireless connection. When the first and second audio-output devices exchange roles as primary and secondary, they first disconnect the second wireless connection and establish a third wireless connection between the second device and the third device. The first audio-output device sends packets stored thereon to the second audio-output device; the second audio-output device outputs audio corresponding to these packets before outputting audio corresponding to packets received from the third device.

Abstract: A multi-radio wireless device capable of communicating on several wireless communication protocols (WCP) such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, etc. may select a communication channel for a desired WCPs by measuring both overlapping and non-overlapping channels of another WCP and determining combined congestion metrics (which measure communications of other devices using the particular channels) for those overlapping and non-overlapping channels. Each channel of the desired WCP may be measured using different combined congestion metrics as well as the individual congestion metrics for the potential channels of the desired WCP. The availability of particular channels of the desired WCP may be measured in this way to select a channel of the desired WCP that is most likely to be available and whose potentially interfering traffic (as measured by the congestion metrics) is least likely to interfere with other communications of a device, including other communications on other WCPs.
