The invention relates to a process for the production of an aqueous dispersion, fluid under normal conditions, based on homo- and co-polymers of conjugated dienes and having solids contents of from 35 to 55%, by weight, and average particle diameters of from 20 to 150 nm from an aqueous dispersion based on homo- and co-polymers of conjugated dienes which has been obtained by conventional methods, is fluid under normal conditions and does not contain alkane polysulphonates, having a solids content of from 25 to 35%, by weight, and average particle diameters of from 20 to 150 nm by concentration in the presence of a water-soluble salt of at least one alkane polysulphonate.

Aqueous dispersions of polymers containing (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester units which contain the polymer in the form of relatively large, non-agglomerated, spherical particles (=main spheres) and relatively small, non-agglomerated, spherical particles (=filler spheres), wherein the smaller filler spheres have an average particle diameter d.sub.F measured using an electron microscope of from 50 to 150 nanometers (nm) and the average diameter of the large main spheres d.sub.H is from 1.35 to 3.5 times larger than the average particle diameter d.sub.F, provided that d.sub.H is at least 140 nm, and wherein the ratio of the total mass of the polymer composed of main spheres M.sub.H to the total mass of the polymer composed of filler spheres M.sub.F isM.sub.H :M.sub.F =20:1 to M.sub.H :M.sub.F =1:20and wherein at least 70% of the number of main spheres and at least 70% of the number of filler spheres lie in the range of .+-.25% of the respective average value of d.sub.H or d.sub.F.Dispersions of this type dry to form clear, lustrous and waterproof films, even with a solids content of from 37 to 45% by weight, and even if that solids content has been obtained from more highly concentrated dispersions by dilution with water. The dispersions are used as binders in or as aqueous paint and coating agents for plastics, metals, wood, glass, paper, and cardboard articles, as binders in print dyes, road marking paints and in impregnation or reinforcing agents for paper, leather, woven and non-woven textiles.

A thermoplastic molding composition that features constancy of properties, especially toughness and processability is disclosed. The composition contains a first graft rubber polymer that is a product of emulsion polymerisation of styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of a butadiene polymer latex (A) with a mean particle diameter d50 of 80 to 220 nm, a second graft rubber polymer obtained by emulsion polymerisation of styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of a butadiene polymer latex (B) with a mean particle diameter d50 of 340 to 480 nm, and a rubber-free copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile. Importantly, the butadiene polymer latex (A) is the product of seed polymerization using a seed latex with a mean particle diameter of 10 to 100 nm, and the butadiene polymer latex (B) is the product of seed polymerisation using the butadiene polymer latex (A) as seed latex.

Moulding compounds the ABS type consisting of at least one resin matrix and a particulate graft-rubber polymer distributed therein and produced by emulsion polymerisation, wherein at least 70% of the graft-rubber particles (number) exhibit a structure of the rubber phase which can be detected by photographs taken with the aid of a transmission electron microscope and in which the individual particles contain irregular cellular inclusions of resin-forming polymer and the surface of the particles exhibits an irregularly jagged structure such that, for each particle illustrated, 5 to 30 of such jagged projections are present which differ from an idealised round particle (with a diameter d) by virtue of a diameter d+d/x with x=3 to 15, as well as a process for the manufacture of said moulding compounds.
