摘要： Output signals Vp from a density sensor are sampled for plural positions on an intermediate transfer belt and an amount of toner adhesion is determined based on the results of sampling. Since these sample data pieces may contain noises, each predetermined number of data pieces of higher order and of lower order are removed from the resultant sample data string. The removed data pieces are each replaced by an average value Vpavg of the other sample data pieces. The amount of toner adhesion is calculated based on the data string thus replaced.

摘要： An image forming apparatus and method that repeats image create/transfer processing, in which serial processing of forming a toner image on a photosensitive member while rotating the photosensitive member and a transfer medium in a sub scanning direction and thereafter transferring the toner image onto the transfer medium, for a plurality of toner colors which are different from each other. The apparatus and method lay toner images in the respective toner colors over each other on said transfer medium and accordingly form a color image. Correcting transfer start positions of toner images in at least one or more toner colors out of the plurality of toner colors is based on a registration control amount which is necessary to correct relative registration deviations among toner images on the transfer medium.

摘要： A CPU 111 drives an intermediate transfer belt at a first speed in a normal mode, but drives the intermediate transfer belt at the first speed in a low speed mode at least until the end of forming a toner image performed by a developer part 20, reduces the speed from the first speed to a second speed after the end of forming the toner image and then maintains the second speed at least until the end of secondary transfer. In the intermediate transfer belt, there are a transfer area, in which primary transfer of a toner image is possible, and a transfer protection area in which primary transfer of a toner image is prohibited and which is provided along a direction of rotation axis. In the low speed mode, the CPU 111 controls image forming so that a toner image will be primarily transferred onto such a portion of the transfer area which is close to the transfer protection area and on the upstream side of the intermediate transfer medium along a direction of rotational driving.

摘要： An automatic sheet feeder for a copying machine etc. for correctly resuming a continuous copying operation after power to the sheet feeder (as well as the copying machine) is stopped by an emergency (safety) power stop. The copying machine has a state memory in which the state of the automatic sheet feeder (whether it is operating or not operating) at the time of a power stoppage to the automatic sheet feeder is stored. When the supply of power to the automatic sheet feeder begins, the state data is sent from the copying machine to the automatic short feeder. When the state data from the copying machine indicates that the sheet feeder was not operating, the automatic sheet feeder performs a preset initializing process in which the feeding rollers are rotated to eject the original sheet on the contact glass plate of the copying machine. When the state data indicates that the sheet feeder was operating when the power supply was stopped however the sheet feeder does not perform the initializing process and the original sheet still on the contact glass plate (which has not yet copied due to the emergency stop) is copied, and the continuous copying operation is resumed without missing any copies of plural original sheets.

摘要： An image forming apparatus comprises: a latent image carrier which carries an electrostatic latent image; a developing unit which visualizes with toner the electrostatic latent image carried by the latent image carrier and forms a toner image; an intermediate transfer medium to which the toner image is transferred from the latent image carrier and which rotates and transports the toner image to a predetermined transfer position and transfers the toner image to a recording medium; a cleaner which abuts on the surface of the intermediate transfer medium and removes toner which adheres to the surface of the intermediate transfer medium after the transfer to the recording medium; and a controller which, assuming that the direction which is orthogonal to the travel direction in which the intermediate transfer medium moves is a width direction, executes toner accumulating processing during which predetermined toner images are formed as end patch images in end areas of the surface of the intermediate transfer medium which are located on outer side along the width direction relative to an image forming region in which a toner image corresponding to size of the recording medium is formed and the cleaner then removes the end patch images.
