Abstract: Systems and methods for responding to continuous-path gestures are disclosed. An example method includes: displaying a plurality of keys on a touch-sensitive keyboard; and in response to a continuous-path gesture on the touch-sensitive keyboard in which a contact associated with the continuous-path gesture travels over two or more of the plurality of keys: begin displaying a punctuation symbol key on the touch-sensitive keyboard; and displaying one or more characters based on keys contacted by the contact during the continuous-path gesture.

Abstract: An electronic device, while displaying a user interface with a favored navigation axis, detects first movement of a contact on a touch-sensitive surface that includes a first component along the favored navigation axis and a second component in a direction different from the favored navigation axis. In response, if first movement meets direction-lock termination criteria, the device moves one or more user interface objects in two dimensions in accordance with both components of the first movement; and if first movement does not meet the direction-lock termination criteria, the device moves user interface objects in one dimension along the favored navigation axis in accordance with the first component of the first movement. After meeting the direction-lock termination criteria, in response to continued second movement of the contact, the device moves user interface objects in accordance with the second movement without regard to whether the second movement meets the direction-lock termination criteria.

Abstract: An electronic device displays at least one device initialization screen. After displaying the at least one device initialization screen, the electronic device displays an instruction screen instructing a user to pair the external device with the electronic device. The electronic device sends first data via wireless communication, displays a pattern comprising identifying information of the electronic device, and receives second data indicating that the external device and the electronic device have been paired using the first data. After receiving the second data, the electronic device provides an aural or haptic indication that the electronic device and the external device have been paired. In some examples, the electronic device is a wearable electronic device and the external device is a smartphone. Pairing the electronic device and the external device may allow the devices to exchange information and operate interactively with one another.

Abstract: An electronic device with a camera invokes a wireless communications pairing mode for pairing the electronic device with an external device. The electronic device obtains an image via the camera. The image contains a pattern displayed on a display screen of the external device, and the pattern comprises identifying information of the external device. The electronic device receives data from the external device, determines whether the received data corresponds with the identifying information, and, in response to a determination that the received data corresponds with the identifying information, registers the external device as a paired device. In some examples, the electronic device is a smartphone and the external device is a wearable electronic device. Pairing the electronic device and the external device may allow the devices to exchange information and operate interactively with one another.
