Abstract:
Valve devices for selectively controlling fluid flow through multiple converging paths are described. An example valve device comprises a housing defining first and second inlet paths, an outlet path, a junction in fluid communication with the first and second inlet paths and the outlet path, and first and second plunger cavities. A first movable plunger is disposed in the first plunger cavity and a second movable plunger is disposed in the second plunger cavity. A control member is slidably attached to the housing and is movable between a first, proximal position with the first plunger in a first position to impede fluid flow through the first inlet path and the second plunger is in a second position, and a second, distal position with the first plunger in a second position and the second plunger in a first position to impede fluid flow through the second inlet path.
Abstract:
Devices and methods of identifying and treating bodily passages, such as sinus cavities, are provided. More particularly, irrigation devices and methods useful in the identification and treatment of bodily passages, such as sinus cavities, are provided. The irrigation devices comprise an elongate tubular member and an optical fiber which assist with the transcutaneous identification and/or treatment of a bodily passage.
Abstract:
A balloon catheter has an elongate catheter shaft and an inflatable balloon. A marking indicia extends along the axial length or a portion of the axial length of the shaft. A raised element is formed by or disposed on the inflatable balloon and is aligned with the marking indicia. Methods of treating a portion of a bodily passage using a balloon catheter having a raised element on the inflatable balloon are also described.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a medical device having a surface with a uniform or non-uniform layer posited thereon that includes a mono- or disaccharide sugar and at least one therapeutic agent. The present invention further relates to materials and a method of making such a medical device and methods of delivering a therapeutic agent.
Abstract:
An electropolishing apparatus and method are provided for polishing stents and other medical implants. The apparatus includes a motor that rotates a roller. The roller continuously rotates the medical implant to be electropolished. One of the advantages of the apparatus and method is that marks generated around the electrical contact between the anode and the medical implant are minimized. In addition, the medical implant is polished more evenly than conventional electropolishing systems.
Abstract:
An endoluminal prosthesis is disclosed and comprises a first generally tubular stent, a second generally tubular stent, and a generally tubular graft member concentrically disposed between the first and second stents. One or more of the first and second stents may have a body portion and a flaring portion. The first and second stents each may have a recoil force such that the combined application of the first and second recoil forces secures the graft member between the first and second stents.
Abstract:
An emboli capture device with a netted wall for capturing emboli during treatment during of a stenotic lesion in a body vessel is disclosed. The device comprises an expandable stent having a partially-expanded state, a fully-expanded state and a closed state. The expandable stent includes a continuous filament configured about a longitudinal axis to define an outer surface of the stent. The device further comprises a filter portion attached about the outer surface of the stent for capturing emboli. The filter portion is placed between the outer surface and the body vessel when the stent is in the partially-expanded state for capturing emboli.
Abstract:
Tissue fixation systems and tissue manipulators are described herein. In addition, methods of using a tissue fixation system and a tissue manipulator, methods of manufacturing a tissue manipulator, and kits that include a tissue fixation system and a tissue manipulator are described herein. An example embodiment of a tissue fixation system includes a mounting plate, a mounting jaw releasably attached to the mounting plate, a mounting clamp releasably attached to the mounting plate, and a plurality of fasteners.
Abstract:
Various medical devices and methods of treatment are described herein. For example, various detachable control handle configurations for inclusion with a medical device, such as a lithotripter, are described. In another example, various probe configurations are described herein. Furthermore, various methods of treatment using a control handle are described herein.
Abstract:
Methods of treatment are described. More particularly, methods of providing access to a bodily passage, such as a salivary duct, are described herein. For example, methods of providing access to a salivary duct and introducing a sheath and wire guide are described herein. In addition, various methods of treatment are described herein. For example, methods of treating a stone located within a salivary duct are described herein.
