摘要: A vascular catheter apparatus for penetration through tissue and for cardiac stimulation, and a methods thereof, are disclosed. The apparatus includes a tubular member having a lumen, and a blunt-end stylet within the lumen. An actuation mechanism causes axial movement of the stylet relative to the catheter tube such that the blunt end of the stylet separate tissue for passage of the catheter through the bored tissue. The stylet itself, or an additional stylet, includes a proximal electrode adapted to be oriented in a cardiac chamber and a distal electrode adapted to be oriented adjacent to the epicardium of the heart to cause cardiac stimulation.

摘要: An arrangement and method facilitates the implantation of an electrode of an endocardial or intravenous lead at an implantation site within the heart of a human. The arrangement includes a guide wire which is formed of flexible material and which may be fed along a predetermined path which includes the implantation site. The arrangement further includes a lead formed of flexible material which includes a proximal end, a distal end, and an electrode to be implanted. The lead further includes an integrally formed follower which slidingly engages the guide wire to permit the lead to be guided along the predetermined path until the electrode to be implanted resides at its implantation site. Thereafter, the guide wire is retracted along the predetermined path to cause the electrode to remain at its implantation site.

摘要: A body implantable device for providing electrical stimulation to living animal tissue. The device includes a pulse generator having at least one alterable output parameter and circuitry responsive to first externally generated signals for altering the alterable output parameter in predetermined correspondence with the number of said first signals. The output parameter altering circuitry is enabled only during the occurrence of second signals having characteristics discriminable from the characteristics of the first signals. In a preferred embodiment, the first signals are pulses of radio frequency energy and the second signals are magnetic. The invention may be embodied in a cardiac pacemaker of either the asynchronous or demand type and the second signals may be employed to cause a demand cardiac pacemaker to revert to an asynchronous operation.

摘要: A fully manually powered infusion device provides both basal and bolus delivery of a liquid medicament to a patient. In some embodiments, the device includes a main reservoir that supplies the liquid medicament, an outlet port that delivers the liquid medicament to the patient, a basal dispenser that delivers a substantially constant flow of the liquid medicament to the outlet port, and a manually actuated bolus pump that delivers a bolus dose of the liquid medicament from the main reservoir to the outlet when actuated. The basal medicament supply delivers a volume of the liquid medicament from the main reservoir to the basal dispenser consonant with each actuation of the bolus pump.

摘要: A cardiac support device comprising a jacket of flexible and biocompatible material having a first axis for alignment generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of a patient's heart and a second axis that is transverse to the first axis. The material exhibits an amount of expansion in response to a force applied to the material along the first axis that is different than an amount of expansion in response to the force applied to the material along the second axis.

摘要: An intra-bronchial device may be placed and anchored in an air passageway of a patient to collapse a lung portion associated with the air passageway. The device includes an obstructing member that prevents air from being inhaled into the lung portion, and an anchor that anchors the obstruction device within the air passageway. The anchor may piercingly engage the air passageway wall. The anchor may be releasable from the air passageway for removal of the obstructing member. The anchor may be releasable by collapsing a portion of the obstructing member, or by drawing the obstructing member toward the larynx. The obstructing member may be a one-way valve.
