Abstract: A method for producing cardiomyocyte cells including implanting a substrate within a heart such that a first portion of the substrate is in physical contact with an endocardium and a second portion of the substrate is not in contact with the endocardium, maintaining the first portion of the substrate in contact with the endocardium for a time at least sufficient to form trabecular fibers extending between the endocardium and the second portion of the substrate, cutting away the trabecular fibers from the endocardium, cutting away the trabecular fibers from the substrate, and removing the trabecular fibers from the heart, wherein the trabecular fibers include cardiomyocyte cells.

Abstract: The present invention relates to method for implanting a medical device for controlling a flow of fluid in a lumen formed by a tissue wall of a patient's urethra. The method is performed by: cutting the skin of the patient, inserting a dissecting tool and dissecting an area of at least one portion of the tissue wall of the urethra, placing an adjustable constriction device in the dissected area in operative engagement with the urethra, placing an operation device configured to operate the adjustable constriction device to control the flow of urine in the urethra in the patient's body, placing a sensor configured to sense a temperature of the medical device in the patient's body, and placing a control unit in the patient's body configured to control the operation device based on information from the sensor.

Abstract: Techniques and systems for monitoring cardiac arrhythmias and delivering electrical stimulation therapy using a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (SICD) and a leadless pacing device (LPD) are described. For example, the SICD may detect a tachyarrhythmia within a first electrical signal from a heart and determine, based on the tachyarrhythmia, to deliver anti-tachyarrhythmia shock therapy to the patient to treat the detected arrhythmia. The LPD may receive communication from the SICD requesting the LPD deliver anti-tachycardia pacing to the heart and determine, based on a second electrical signal from the heart sensed by the LPD, whether to deliver anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP) to the heart. In this manner, the SICD and LPD may communicate to coordinate ATP and/or cardioversion/defibrillation therapy. In another example, the LPD may be configured to deliver post-shock pacing after detecting delivery of anti-tachyarrhythmia shock therapy.

The system also includes an impedance circuit configured to measure impedance along an impedance monitoring (IM) vector between the first and second electrodes. One or more processors are also provided that are configured to obtain impedance data indicative of an impedance along the IM vector with the first electrode located at different depths within the septal wall, the impedance data including a set of data values associated with different depths of the first electrode within the septal wall. The one or more processors are also configured to determine when the first electrode is located at a target depth within the septal wall based on the impedance data.

Abstract: Described herein are methods, devices, and systems for providing an implantable leadless pacemaker (LP) with a remote follow-up capability whereby the LP can provide diagnostic information to an external device that is incapable of programming the LP, wherein the LP includes two or more implantable electrodes used to output both pacing pulses and conductive communication pulses. Such a method can include the LP monitoring for a presence of one or more notification conditions associated with the LP and/or associated with a patient within which the LP is implanted, and the LP periodically outputting an advertisement sequence of pulses, using at least implantable electrodes of the LP, irrespective of whether the LP recognizes the presence of at least one notification condition. The method can also include the LP recognizing the presence of at least one notification condition, and based thereon, the LP also outputting a notification sequence of pulses.

Abstract: In various examples, a guidewire for temporary pacing of tissue includes an elongate core wire and a coil disposed along at least a portion of a length of the core wire. The coil is disposed radially outwardly from and around the core wire, wherein a core axis and a coil axis are substantially aligned. At least one electrode is disposed along the guidewire and includes an uninsulated portion of the core wire disposed within an electrode section of the coil. A spacing between adjacent windings of the electrode section of the coil is configured to allow a stimulation pulse to travel from the uninsulated portion of the core wire, through the spacing between the adjacent windings of the electrode section, and to the tissue in order to stimulate the tissue.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are implantable medical devices and systems, and methods for used therewith, that selectively perform atrial overdrive pacing while an intrinsic atrial rate of a patient is within a specified range. Such a method can involve measuring intervals between a plurality of intrinsic atrial depolarizations that occur during a specified period, and classifying intrinsic atrial activity as stable or unstable based on the measured intervals. In response to classifying the intrinsic atrial activity as stable, atrial overdrive pacing is performed. In response to classifying the intrinsic atrial rate as unstable, atrial overdrive pacing is not performed (i.e., is abstained from being performed). Over time, effectiveness of performing atrial overdrive pacing using various different atrial interval shorting deltas are recorded in a log and updated, and the log is used to determine a preferred rate at which to perform atrial overdrive pacing for various different measured intervals.
