摘要: A design control system suitable for use in connection with the design of integrated circuits and other elements of manufacture having many parts which need to be developed in a concurrent engineering environment with inputs provided by users and or systems which may be located anywhere in the world providing a set of control information for coordinating movement of the design information through development and to release while providing dynamic tracking of the status of elements of the bills of materials in an integrated and coordinated activity control system utilizing a repository which can be implemented in the form of a database (relational, object oriented, etc.) or using a flat file system. Once a model is created and/or identified by control information design libraries hold the actual pieces of the design under control of the system without limit to the number of libraries, and providing for tracking and hierarchical designs which are allowed to traverse through multiple libraries. Data Managers become part of the design team, and libraries are programmable to meet the needs of the design group they service.

摘要: A method and system for identifying a data structure associated with a packet of data. A processor internal to a packet processor may extract one or more fields in a packet header field of a received packet of data to generate a search key. The internal processor may then be configured to select which table, e.g., routing table, quality of service table, filter table, needs to be accessed using the search key in order to process the received packet of data. A determination may then be made by the internal processor as to whether a CAM or a hash table and a Patricia Tree are used to identify the data structure associated with the received packet of data. Based on table definitions in a register, the internal processor may make such a determination.

摘要: A design structure is provided for a slotted ring network, in which a node may transmit a non-renewable slot reservation with any unreserved slot. The reservation restricts other nodes from transmitting a new packet in the slot. When the slot returns around the ring to the reserving node, the slot will be available. Preferably, reservation is made responsive to a starvation condition in the reserving node, which may be detected in any of various ways. In an optional enhancement, a reservation identifies the reserving node, and another node on the ring is free to transmit a new packet in the reserved slot if the new packet will reach its destination at or before the reserving node, and thus will not interfere with the reservation.

摘要: The transport protocol for communicating between general purpose processors acting as contact points and network processors in a packet processing environment such as Ethernet is provided. In such an environment, there is at least one single control point processor (CP) and a plurality of network processors (NP), sometimes referred to as blades. A typical system could contain two to sixteen network processors, and each network processor connects to a plurality of devices which communicate with each other over a network transport, such as Ethernet. The CP typically controls the functionality and the functioning of the network processors to function in a way that connects one end user with another, whether or not the end user is on the same network processor or a different network processor. There are three types of communication provided; first, there is communication generally referred to as control services and normally there will be only one pico processor which operates as a GCH (guided cell handler) and only one that operates as a guided tree handler (GTH). A path is provided for the controls to the GCH and the GTH commands, and a separate path is provided for the data frames between the GDH's (general data handler) and the CP.

摘要: A method and system for controlling a flow of a plurality of packets in a computer network is disclosed. The computer network includes a queue. The method and system include determining a queue level for the queue and determining an offered rate of the plurality of packets to the queue. The method and system also include controlling a transmission fraction of the plurality of packets to the queue, based on the queue level, the offered rate and a previous value of the transmission fraction so that the transmission fraction and the queue level are critically damped if the queue level is between at least a first queue level and a second queue level.

摘要: Method and apparatus for segmenting variable length frames into fixed length cells in a network equipment. The method allows preparing information to build the cells resulting in the segmenting of a succession of frames directed to the same destination in said network equipment. The cell may be packed with more than one frame. The cell information comprises the address where to read the frame data in a first storage unit, the cell header itself which indicates if the cell includes data from one packet or for more packets, a pointer per each of said more packets, designating the place of the end of data of the previous packet in the cell and a cell type field indicating one of the following types: a start of a new frame type, a continuation of frame type, a end of current frame type and a start and a end of a new frame type. The segmenting apparatus comprises a finite state machine using an Add/substract unit to compute the cell information and write said cell information in a second storage unit.
