Systems and methods for entity-based searching with content selection include receiving a search query and determining that the search query corresponds to a search entity. The search entity may be associated with an online action, thereby forming an entity-action pair. Auction parameters that specify the entity-action pair may be used to select third-party content. A visual layout for the third-party content may be generated based on the relationship between a search query and the entity-action pair and used as part of the presentation of the third-party content on a search result screen.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for using second screen devices to augment media engagement metrics. In one aspect, a method includes accessing user activity data describing user activities performed by a user on a first user device during a first time period, and accessing data describing presentation of one or more content items during the first time period on second user devices. For the first user device, determining based on the user activity data, for each of a plurality of second time periods that are sub-periods of the first time period, a first level of user engagement with the first user device, and determining, based on the user activity data, for each second time period that is a sub-period of the first time period, a second level of user engagement with the one or more content items presented.

Search results responsive to a query are identified including a first search result in a top set of search results, the first search result associated with a first entity. A first eligible content item is identified for presentation along with the search results, the first eligible content item associated with the first entity. A combined content item is identified that is a combination of the first search result and first eligible content item and is to be presented as a search result responsive to the query. The combined content item is augmented including: identifying entities related to the first entity, identifying content items that are associated with the related entities, selecting at least one identified content item, and using content from the selected content items to augment the combined content item.

The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for refining content selection criteria to facilitate content selection via a computer network. In some embodiments, a tool identifies a first entity used to select content of a first content provider. The first entity can correspond to a canonical stable identifier in a database. The tool can identify a plurality of sets of entities that each comprise the first entity and an additional entity different from the first entity. Each of the plurality of sets of entities can be associated with content of a corresponding content provider. The tool can determine a performance metric for the additional entity. The tool can compare the performance metric with a performance threshold. The tool can associate the additional entity with the content of the first content provider based on the comparison.
Abstract:
A system and method for generating a reputation score is disclosed. A processing unit processes user activity data from data sources to identify user interactions associated with a user. A categorizing engine categorizes the user interactions into categories. A social bonus engine determines a social bonus score based on social affinity data. A scoring engine computes a first reputation score for the user by combining scores for the categorized user interactions with a social bonus score. A learning engine receives a second set of user interactions and training data and generates a learning result that is used to update the first reputation score.
