The process for the preparation of acyloxybenzenesulfonic acids of the general formula ##STR1## in which R denotes a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.17)-alkyl or (C.sub.2 -C.sub.17)-alkenyl radical, or alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salts thereof, is carried out in the following stages: (a) sulfonation of phenol, (b) heat treatment of the phenolsulfonic acid formed as the intermediate product, (c) esterification of the phenolsulfonic acid and, if appropriate, (d) neutralization of the resulting (C.sub.2 -C.sub.18)-acyloxybenzenesulfonic acid. As a result of the incorporation of stage (b), the process affords products in which the proportion of the 1,4-isomer compared with the 1,2-isomer is markedly increased, as a result of which these products can be used, in particular, as perborate activators in detergents.

The invention relates to a method for producing metal complexes of formula (2) [MaLxXn]Ym (2), where M is a metal from the group consisting of Mn(II), Mn(III), Mn(IV), Fe(II), Fe(III) or Fe(IV), X is a coordinating compound selected from mono-, bi- or tri-charged anions or neutral molecules which can coordinate to a metal in mono-, bi- or tri-dentate form, Y represents a non-coordinating counter-ion which ensures charge equalization of the complex, L represents a ligand of formula (1) or the protonized or de-protonized form thereof, and a, x, n, m, R, R1, R2, R3 and z have the meanings described in claim 1. The invention relates to a method for isolating concentrated paraffin sulfonic acids from reaction mixtures that are produced during the sulfoxidation of n-paraffins, from which a major part of the sulfuric acid and the paraffin was removed by phase separation and which contain, in addition to the free paraffin sulfonic acids, n-paraffins, water and optionally minor amounts of sulfuric acids. The method according to the invention is characterized by removing paraffin and optionally residual water by vacuum distillation. The paraffin sulfonic acids obtained by distillation have a content of more than 85% by weight of the active substance. The material is pale, odorless and low in sulfuric acid and paraffin.
