摘要: A method is provided for preparing a highly purified lysozyme dimer product which comprises dimerizing the lysozyme monomer with a suberimidate coupling reagent in a buffer solution adjusted to pH 10, stopping the dimerization at a given point by lowering the pH to 7 via addition of HCl or other suitable acid solution, and purifying the dimeric lysozyme by a series of elution steps carried out using ion exchange resin column chromatography. Monomeric lysozyme remaining undimerized by the initial dimerization step is recycled into the process in order to increase yield. The present system is advantageous in that large amounts of purified lysozyme dimer can be prepared efficiently and relatively inexpensively, and the lysozyme dimer so produced is useful in treating viral and/or bacterial diseases without causing the cytotoxic effects associated with the lysozyme monomer.

摘要: A sheave which can be connected to the output shaft of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle has a rotary input element, an output element which is coaxial with and rotatable relative to the input element and is provided with a rim for one or more endless belts or chains, one or more bearings between the input element and the output element, a damping unit which opposes rotation of the two elements relative to each other, and an inertial damper which is connected between the output shaft and the input element. The inertial damper has a ring-shaped mass which is at least partially surrounded by and is closely adjacent the rim. The rim, the inertial damper and the damping unit are interfitted in the axial direction of the sheave to contribute to compactness of the sheave.

摘要: By providing a product supporting base and frangible, removal indicating means securely retaining each product package on the support base, a unique tamper resistant, package assembly is attained, whereby the initial removal of each package from the base causes the frangible, removal indicating means to be irreversibly broken, bent or otherwise destroyed or deformed. In this way, no package can be removed for tampering and subsequently replaced on the supporting tray without the previous removal of the product being immediately apparent. In the preferred embodiments, the frangible removal indicating means comprise a plurality of finger members or flanges which embrace the package and securely retain the package to the support base. Upon removal of the package, the frangible finger members or flanges are irreversibly broken, bent, deformed or destroyed, thereby providing consumers with immediate notice that any product associated therewith has been previously removed and replaced.

摘要: The invention relates to rapidly crystallizing polyester materials and a process for their preparation, in which, in a first stage, the polyester is prepared in the presence of an (alkaline earth) alkali metal or of an (alkaline earth) alkali metal compound, and then, in a second stage, further non-nucleated polyesters and a crystallization accelerator in a adequate amount are, if required, added to this polyester. The polyesters according to the invention are distinguished in particular by reduced molecular weight degradation.

摘要: An electrical apparatus useful to prepare a hot beverage from a flavor substance. The apparatus has a flow-through heater, a container for a liquid and a cup unit for the flavor substance. A pipe joins the cup unit and the liquid container. The cup unit includes a cup and there is a filter carrier to fit in the top of the cup and to carry a filter containing the flavor substance. A passage extends through the filter carrier and is open at both ends of the carrier. A channel is formed between the base of the filter carrier and the passage. Further passages join the interior of the passage to the channel. The filter carrier has upper and lower closures. The heater unit has a container for a liquid; a heater for the liquid and a head to fit over the cup unit. The pipe extends from the heater to the head. The apparatus allows the liquid to pass from the container through the pipe through the head, into the filter and through the upper closure of the cup unit so that liquid may pass through the flavor substance in the filter to form the beverage.

摘要: A flow-through heater for heating a fluid comprises: a high thermal conductivity conduit-defining body shaped to provide, within the conduit-defining body, a helical-shaped or spiral-shaped conduit that extends between an inlet port and an outlet port; and one or more heating elements operatively connected to an exterior of the conduit-defining body for providing heat to the conduit-defining body and to any fluid flowing through the conduit. Because of the high thermal conductivity of the conduit-defining body, all of the surfaces of the conduit-defining body that actually define the conduit contribute significantly to heating the fluid in the conduit. Each conduit-defining surface may contribute to heating the fluid in approximately equal proportion to its conduit-defining surface area.
