Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a first translucent substrate; a second translucent substrate facing the first translucent substrate; a liquid crystal layer including polymer dispersed liquid crystal sealed between the first translucent substrate and the second translucent substrate; at least one light emitter facing at least one of a side surface of the first translucent substrate or a side surface of the second translucent substrate; and a display controller that controls a color of an image overlapping with a background viewed through the first translucent substrate and the second translucent substrate according to a color of the background.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display apparatus includes: an image display panel including a plurality of pixels and displaying an image; and a signal processor generating a second signal by multiplying signal values for a plurality of sub-pixels making up each of the plurality of pixels by a gain, the signal values being included in a first signal that is an input signal of the image. The the signal processor calculates a luminance of each of the plurality of pixels based on the signal values of the sub-pixels included in the respective pixels. The signal processor increases the gain by which the signal values of the sub-pixels of the pixel having a luminance greater than a first luminance threshold are multiplied, in accordance with the luminance of the corresponding pixel.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display apparatus includes: an image display panel that displays an image thereon; a planar light source that includes a plurality of light sources and irradiates a plurality of divided areas of the image display panel with light from the back side of the image display panel; and a signal processor that drives the light sources individually based on input signals of the image to control brightness of the individual divided areas. The signal processor performs image display on the image display panel using output signals obtained by lowering brightness of a dark region in the image represented by the input signals.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel, a light source, a light guide and a prism sheet. The display panel includes a display area in which unit pixels each containing first sub-pixels and second sub-pixels are arranged along a first direction and a second direction. In the display area, the first sub-pixels have a width different from that of the second sub-pixel in at least one of the first direction and the second direction, or each unit pixel contains different numbers of first sub-pixels and second sub-pixels.
