    摘要: A method for preparing bisphenol A is disclosed, with a selectivity for the p,p′-isomer of greater than about 97%. The method involves reacting phenol with p-isopropenylphenol or 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-propanol in the presence of a catalyst, at a reaction temperature of no greater than about 65° C. The bisphenol A product is preferably purified by a technique which omits the use of adduct crystallization.

    摘要: Hydroxyaromatic compounds such as phenol are converted to diaryl carbonates by reaction with oxygen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst package which comprises a Group VIIIB metal, preferably palladium, salt of at least one aliphatic .beta.-diketone such as 2,4-pentanedione. The catalyst package also preferably comprises an inorganic cocatalyst, an organic cocatalyst and a bromide or chloride, preferably bromide, source such as a hexaalkylguanidinium bromide. The use of the .beta.-diketone salt confers such advantages as long shelf life under normal storage conditions, high activity upon recycle and capability of carbonylation at relatively low temperatures.

The preferred catalyst packages comprise a Group VIIIB metal or salt thereof, an inorganic cocatalyst, and organic cocatalysts and a bromide or chloride source. The amount of added diluent is an effective amount to improve selectivity to diaryl carbonate. Preferred diluents are diphenyl carbonate and N-methylpyrrolidone.

    摘要: Disclosed herein is a method for purification of dianhydrides comprising a substantial amount (10000 ppm or more) of at least one metal salt. In one aspect the method is useful for the purification of dianhydrides prepared by the reaction of a halophthalic anhydride with a metal carbonate and may be optionally catalyzed by a phase transfer catalyst. The purification of the dianhydrides may be accomplished by hydrolyzing the dianhydride metal salt mixture directly to a tetraacid with an inorganic acid, followed by separating the impurities from an aqueous phase, and subsequently heating the tetraacid to effect ring closure to form a purified dianhydride having less than 50 parts per million metal halide and lower levels of other residual impurities. In one aspect the method is highly effective in removing phase transfer catalyst impurities such as hexalkylguanidinium halides initially present in the dianhydride undergoing purification.
