Abstract: An apparatus relating to authorization of network functions includes at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code. The at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to: send, from a first network function service consumer instance to an authorization server, a request for an access token for use in accessing a service provided by a network function service producer; receive, at the first network function service consumer instance from the authorization server, an access token for use in accessing the service provided by the network function service producer; and send, from the first network function service consumer instance to the network function service producer, a request to access the service provided by the network function service producer, the request to access the service including the access token.

Abstract: Improved techniques for secure access control in communication systems are provided. In one example, in accordance with an authorization server function, a method comprises receiving a request from a service consumer in a communication system for access to a service type and one or more resources associated with the service type. The method determines whether the service consumer is authorized to access the service type and the one or more resources associated with the service type. The method generates an access token that identifies one or more service producers for the service type and the one or more resources associated with the service type that the service consumer is authorized to access, and sends the access token to the service consumer. The service consumer can then use the access token to access the one or more services and one or more resources. In addition to such resource level access authorization, target network function group access authorization can be performed.

According to an aspect, a method comprises as performed by a terminal device: triggering, by the terminal device, network slice selection in the terminal device for an application executed in the terminal device; transmitting, by the terminal device in response to said triggering, a network slice query request message to a network node of a network infrastructure; receiving, by the terminal device from the network node as a response to the network slice query request message, a network slice query response message indicating at least one network slice available to the terminal device and comprising at least one quality-of-service parameter of the at least one network slice; and selecting, by the terminal device, a network slice of the at least one network slice for the application on the basis of the at least one quality-of-service parameter.

The method may include determining that an existing user plane function is sub-optimal in terms of routing and latency incurred with respect to traffic for a given packet data unit session of a user equipment. The method may also include establishing, based on the determination, a new user plane function for the packet data unit session. The method may further include establishing a branching point user plane function that interfaces with the existing user plane function, the new user plane function, and a plurality of network access types. In addition, the method may include updating the user equipment by providing the user equipment with relevant multi-access traffic steering rules.
