    摘要: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate opposed to the first substrate, and a vertically aligned liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates, and has a plurality of pixels each including a first electrode formed on the first substrate, a second electrode formed on the second substrate, and the liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second electrodes. The first substrate has a shading region in gaps between the plurality of pixels, and a wall structure is placed regularly on the surface of the first substrate facing the liquid crystal layer in the shading region. A color filter layer of the second substrate has at least one hole formed at a predetermined position in each pixel. At least one liquid crystal domain having axisymmetric alignment is formed in the liquid crystal layer when at least a predetermined voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer, and the center axis of the axisymmetrically aligned liquid crystal domain is formed in or near the hole in the color filter layer.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display panel includes an active matrix substrate, a counter substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a sealant. The counter electrode is opposed to the active matrix substrate. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate. The sealant, which surrounds the liquid crystal layer between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate, joins the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate and seals the liquid crystal layer. A portion of the surface on the liquid crystal layer side of the active matrix substrate which is located at the periphery of the liquid crystal display panel is flat.

    摘要: The liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes a first substrate, a second substrate and a vertically aligned liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrate. The device has a plurality of pixels each including a first electrode formed on the first substrate, a second electrode formed on the second substrate, and the liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second electrode, and a shading region provided around the pixels. A plurality of supports for defining the thickness of the liquid crystal layer are placed regularly on the surface of the first or second substrate facing the liquid crystal layer in the shading region. The liquid crystal layer forms at least one liquid crystal domain exhibiting axisymmetric alignment when at least a predetermined voltage is applied, and the tilt direction of liquid crystal molecules in the at least one liquid crystal domain is defined with inclined sides of the plurality of supports.

    摘要: The liquid crystal display (LCD) device of the invention includes: a substrate; a dielectric layer; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched by the substrate and the dielectric layer; a plurality of stripe-shaped electrodes formed on a surface of the substrate facing the liquid crystal layer to extend in parallel with a first direction; and a plurality of stripe-shaped plasma channels formed to face the plurality of electrodes with the liquid crystal layer and the dielectric layer therebetween to extend in parallel with a second direction different from the first direction. The dielectric layer or an alignment layer formed on a surface of the dielectric layer facing the liquid crystal layer selectively attenuates ultraviolet rays emitted from the plasma channels.
