The mobile station notifies (704) the network (110) of preferences as to prescribed categories of operating conditions, such as whether to continue receiving the broadcast content, and election between the point-to-point call and the broadcast content should network resources be unable to conduct the point-to-point call and broadcast content concurrently. In accordance with the preferences, communications are conducted (706) in one of the following operating modes: (1) conducting the point-to-point call and discontinuing reception of the broadcast, (2) conducting the point-to-point call and continuing reception of the broadcast, (3) aborting completion of the point-to-point call and continuing reception of the broadcast.

摘要： To enable point-to-multipoint communication services in an existing cellular communication system infrastructure, each member subscriber station, i.e., a subscriber station participating in such a service, is receiving a forward link shared channel, and in certain embodiments additionally a forward link dedicated channel. Because transmission on the forward link channels from neighboring sectors presents interference to the transmission from the sector serving the subscriber station, it is desirable to control the forward link channel transmission power to the minimum acceptable power. Additionally, a transmission form each member subscriber station on a reverse link channel presents interference to other subscriber stations. Therefore, it is desirable to control the reverse link channel transmission to the minimum signal level. Consequently, a method and apparatus for a power control that enables point-to-multipoint services in an existing infrastructure of a wireless cellular telephone system is disclosed.

摘要： Techniques for selectively combining multiple transmissions to recover a message comprised of multiple frames. Initially, each transmission is separately processed to recover the message. If the message cannot be recovered error-free from any single transmission, then portions of multiple transmissions are selectively combined to recover the message. Erased frames in a message recovered from a primary transmission (e.g., the one with the best pilot Ec/I0) and good frames from other transmissions are determined (e.g., based on the frame-level CRC). One or more combined messages are then formed, each including a different set of good frames substituting for the erased frames. If a good frame cannot be derived from any single transmission for a given erased frame, then symbols from multiple transmissions may be combined to derive the good frame. Each combined message is checked (e.g., based on the message-level CRC) to determine whether it is good or erased.
