摘要: Injection devices are known for the self administration of a medicament by patients in which the medicament is contained within a cartridge located within the injection device. It is a problem that such injection devices should be small enough to fit into a jacket pocket or a hand bag without difficulty. Concurrently, the injection device must be of size that enables a piston or similar used to drive a cartridge bung within the cartridge to be moved both to a maximum dispense position within the cartridge and to be fully withdrawn from the cartridge to allow for replacement of the cartridge. A drive mechanism for an injection device is disclosed comprising a piston member 10, a semi rigid belt 18 connected to the piston member 10, a belt drive means to selectively engage with the semi rigid belt 18 to drive the semi rigid belt 18, and a dose setting mechanism to control the selective engagement of the semi rigid belt in which the semi rigid belt 18 includes a track incorporated therein and the belt drive means comprises a tooth 50 for selective engagement with the track to drive the belt 18 only when there is relative movement between the semi rigid belt 18 and the tooth 50 in a first direction. An injection device comprising such a drive mechanism is also disclosed.

In combination a medicament delivery apparatus and a medicament cartridge are provided, the medicament delivery apparatus including at least one switch and the medicament cartridge comprising a cartridge housing within which a medicament is provided, a displaceable piston located internally at one end of the housing and a raised ring of material about an external periphery of the medicament cartridge, the ring of material being of sufficient dimensions, in use, to trip the at least one switch of the medicament delivery apparatus.

摘要: Many of those having diabetes take a combination of slow and fast acting types of insulin. It is important that the different forms of medicament do not become confused. To this end, a medicament cartridge is provided comprising a sleeve having a bottleneck providing a flange at a first end, a fluid impermeable membrane secured across the first end by a metal cap beaded beneath the flange, and a displaceable piston located internally of the sleeve towards a second end of the sleeve, a collar located against an external periphery of the cartridge housing beneath the flange and an adaptor top press fit over the cap and the collar, the adaptor top being provided with means to act upon the collar thereby to retain the adaptor top on the sleeve.

A drive mechanism for an injection device is disclosed in which a second piston (42) is successively moved in relation to a first end of a medicament cartridge (8) containing a medicament selectively to drive a bung (10) into the medicament cartridge (8), the drive mechanism comprising a means (36) defining a passageway (38), a first piston (40) and the second piston (42), in which the passageway (38) has a first end and a second end, the first piston (40) closing the first end of the passageway (38) and a first end of the second piston (42) closing the second end of the passageway (38) to define a chamber in the passageway (38), a non-compressible medium being contained within the chamber such that a first relative movement in a first direction at the first end of the passageway (38) results in a second relative movement in a direction opposite the first direction at the second end of the passageway (38).

A drive mechanism for an injection device is disclosed in which a piston (48) is successively moved along the first axis to drive a bung (20) into a medicament cartridge (18), a displacement mechanism comprising a dose setting spindle (30) is disposed along a second axis, the second axis being parallel to the first axis, transmission means connected between the dose setting spindle (30) and the piston (20), and displacement means to displace the dose setting spindle (30) with respect to the medicament cartridge (18), a movement of the displacement means in a first direction causing movement of the dose setting spindle (30) and the piston (20) in the first direction.

摘要: A person having diabetes will often be required to take both slow acting and fast acting forms of insulin. It is important to be able to distinguish readily between medicament cartridges containing different medicaments. The present invention enables a user to distinguish readily between medicament cartridges containing different medicaments. A medicament cartridge and adaptor top assembly is provided, the medicament cartridge comprising a cylinder having a bottleneck provided with a flange at a first end, a fluid impermeable membrane covering the first end, a cap beaded under the flange to retain the fluid impermeable membrane in place, and a piston displaceably located within a second end of the cylinder, and the adaptor top comprising a sleeve having a body portion and a tapered portion, the tapered portion being provided with a smaller diameter end, the smaller diameter end being located beneath the cap.
