A present novel and non-trivial system, module, and method for presenting runway traffic information are disclosed. A partitioned runway awareness zone is established using data received from a source of navigation reference data, where such data could represent runway information, runway awareness zone information, or partitioned runway awareness zone information. After traffic data is received from a source such as an ADS-B, each section of the partitioned runway zone occupied by traffic is determined. Based upon the determination, an advisory data set comprising traffic information is generated and provided to a presentation system, where the advisory data set could include alert data based upon a level of threat. A presentation system used to present traffic information could include a visual display unit(s), an aural alert unit, and/or a tactile alert unit. A portable device such as handheld may be used to present traffic information.

A present novel and non-trivial system, device, and method for enhancing an image presented to the pilot on an aircraft display unit. Locations of visible and invisible objects related to aviation such as airports, navigation aids and facilities, and airspace are enhanced by providing highlighter bands with location highlighters. Navigation data representative of aircraft navigation information is received, and location data representative of the location of at least one object located outside the aircraft is retrieved based upon the navigation data. An image generating processor generates an image data set as a function of highlighter data associated with the location data, where the image data set is representative of a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image in which each object is enhanced with location highlighter and/or highlighter band of. The image data set may be provided to a tactical display unit, a strategic display unit, or both for display.

A present novel and non-trivial system, module, and method for generating an image of a flight route corridor displayed an aircraft display unit. A processor generates an image data set using navigation data and object data, where object data includes terrain and obstacle data. The image data set is determined using the object data and flight route corridor data, wherein the flight route corridor data is determined by applying navigation and object data to flight route corridor design criteria. The image data set is provided to a display unit to display a flight route corridor and at least one “offending” object against the background of the scene outside the aircraft, where offending objects include those objects penetrating an obstacle clearance surface and those objects penetrating the flight route corridor. The depiction of the flight route corridor and offending objects may be enhanced with the use of highlighters.

A present novel and non-trivial system, module, and method for illuminating a target on an aircraft windshield corresponding to a three-dimensional location outside of an aircraft. Navigation data and three-dimensional location data are provided to a control processor; the navigation data may comprise aircraft position, heading, and pitch, roll, and yaw attitudes, and the three-dimensional location data may comprise a runway reference point. After an external target angle and track angle are determined, control data may be generated as a function of pitch, roll and/or yaw attitudes, glide path angle, track angle, and cockpit references originating from a design eye position. Control data may comprise data representative of vertical and/or lateral measurements which position a beam on a windshield target. Then, the control data may be provided to an illumination source for positioning a beam on the windshield target in response to the control data.
