Abstract: A position of a mobile communication device is determined by obtaining a first set of candidate signal templates, wherein each candidate signal template in the first set of candidate signal templates corresponds to a respective candidate position of a first set of candidate positions, and wherein magnitude values in each candidate signal template in the first set of candidate signal templates are encoded in accordance with a first magnitude encoding strategy. A first radar echo signal is obtained, and a first test signal is produced by encoding magnitude values of the first radar echo signal in accordance with the first magnitude encoding strategy. The first test signal is correlated with each candidate signal template in the first set of candidate signal templates to obtain a first set of respective correlation results. A second set of candidate positions is produced by using the first correlation results as a basis for selecting fewer than all of the candidate positions from the first set of candidate positions. A second set of candidate signal templates is obtained, wherein each candidate signal template in the second set of candidate signal templates corresponds to a respective one of the candidate positions in the second set of candidate positions, and wherein magnitude values in each candidate signal template in the second set of candidate signal templates are encoded in accordance with a second magnitude encoding strategy that is different from the first magnitude encoding strategy.

Abstract: Camouflage detection systems and related techniques are provided to improve the detection of camouflaged targets, including targets employing active thermal camouflage techniques. A camouflage detection system includes an imaging system and a logic device configured to communicate with the imaging system and a supplemental sensor system. The imaging system includes an infrared imaging module configured to provide infrared and/or thermal image data of a scene including a camouflaged target. The logic device is configured to receive infrared image data and supplemental sensor data, determine an estimated target spatial profile, and determine one or more target profile anomalies based, at least in part, on the estimated target spatial profile.

Abstract: Example embodiments relate to techniques for three dimensional (3D) object detection and localization. A computing system may cause a radar unit to transmit radar signals and receive radar reflections relative to an environment of a vehicle. Based on the radar reflections, the computing system may determine a heading and a range for a nearby object. The computing system may also receive an image depicting a portion of the environment that includes the object from a vehicle camera and remove peripheral areas of the image to generate an image patch that focuses upon the object based on the heading and the range for the object. The image patch and the heading and the range for the object can be provided as inputs into a neural network that provides output parameters corresponding to the object, which can be used to control the vehicle.
