摘要： Aiming to suitably balance, when backing up data to a magnetic tape, search time and writing/reading performance depending on the purpose of the backup, provided is a disk array apparatus including a disk device having hard disks, a magnetic tape device including a magnetic tape to which data to be backed up is written, and a control unit performing writing and reading processings of data between the disk device and the magnetic tape device. The control unit includes an FM (file mark) interval managing unit which receives a purpose of use when backing up the data on the magnetic tape, and from FM intervals which is held in association with the purpose of use thus received and which indicates an interval of recording FMs on the magnetic tape, acquires an FM interval corresponding to the purpose of use thus received, and transmits the acquired FM interval to the control unit.

摘要： An image processing apparatus combines a background image, handwritten image, and a standard image. A reference image acquired by increasing the luminance value of the background image and the standard image is printed on a recording sheet. A recording sheet is read after being filled in, and a region whose luminance value is lower than a predetermined threshold value and a region indicated by standard image mask data are extracted. The extracted regions are combined with the background image and printed. In particular, the standard image mask data indicates a region in the standard image which is easily affected by a background color of a paper, so that color adjustment is performed on the region in the extracted image which is indicated by the mask data. As a result, the region in the standard image is prevented from being affected by the background color of the recording sheet in the combined result, and the images can be combined and printed according to the original color of the standard image.

The printer transmits information indicative of its capabilities to the digital camera and the digital camera incorporates the transmitted printer capability information in a print settings menu. The capability information has information relating to the printer capabilities and information indicative of a default setting. The capabilities of the printer are incorporated in the print settings menu together with the default setting. A desired printing condition can be set selectively at the digital camera using the print settings menu in which the capability information has been incorporated.

摘要： A transfer-conveyance device for transferring a visible image on an image bearing member in an image forming apparatus onto a transfer sheet and to convey the transfer sheet. The transfer-conveyance device includes a contact member that contacts the image bearing member, a bias applying device to apply a transfer bias to the contact member, a resistance detecting device to detect a resistance of the contact member, and a transfer bias control device to determine an amount of variation in the resistance of the contact member and control the transfer bias. The transfer bias is controlled on the basis of the amount of variation in the resistance of the contact member. A method of controlling a transfer bias in an image forming apparatus includes the steps of applying the transfer bias to a contact member contacting an image bearing member to transfer an image on the image bearing member onto a transfer sheet, determining an amount of variation in a resistance of the transfer member, and controlling the transfer bias on the basis of the amount of variation in the resistance of the contact member.

When the transfer bias member transfers a color toner image onto a recording sheet, a second peak value of a peak-to-peak of a transfer bias, which is smaller than a first peak value of the peak-to-peak in an electrostatic force to move toner from the image bearers or an intermediate transfer body to the recording sheet, is zero or has a first polarity to generate the electrostatic force in a transfer direction to move toner from the image bearers or the intermediate transfer body to the recording sheet. When the transfer bias member transfers a monochromatic toner image including only black toner onto the recording sheet, the second peak value is zero or has a second polarity to generate an electrostatic force in an opposite direction to the transfer direction.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes an image bearer, a toner image forming device, a nip forming device, a power source, a controller, and a temperature-and-humidity detector. The toner image forming device forms a toner image on the image bearer. The nip forming device contacts the image bearer to form a transfer nip. The power source outputs a transfer bias, in which an alternating current component is superimposed on a direct current component, to transfer the toner image onto a recording medium interposed in the transfer nip. The temperature-and-humidity detector detects a temperature and humidity. The controller controls the power source to output the transfer bias including the direct current component with a smaller absolute value as at least one of the detected temperature and humidity increases.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier that carries a toner image; a transfer member that forms a transfer nip between the transfer member and the image carrier; and a power supply capable of outputting a superimposed transfer bias in which an alternating current component is superimposed onto a direct current component. The toner image on the image carrier is transferred onto a recording medium in the transfer nip by the superimposed transfer bias or a direct current bias consisting of the direct current component output by the power supply. The apparatus also includes a controller that controls the power supply so that an output target value of the direct current component when the direct current component rises up is larger than an output target value of the direct current component when the toner image is transferred onto the recording medium.
