摘要: An automatically settable date printing apparatus adapted particularly for use in postage meters which print an indicia on envelopes as they are fed seriatim past a rotary printing drum in the postage meter in which a plurality of print wheels print the day, month and year successively for each day. The apparatus includes a date print wheel assembly having individual print wheels for printing the unit day, the decade day, the month and the year for any given date. A drive wheel assembly includes a plurality of independent drive wheels for driving the date print wheels an appropriate amount, the drive wheel which is connected to the unit day print wheel being the sole source of input drive for the other drive wheels which rotate the other date print wheels by an appropriate amount through transfer components on the drive wheels. An actuating mechanism which is operated by the microprocessor of an electronic calendar controls the movement of the input drive wheel in such a manner that the print wheels are positioned to print the proper data for each successive date.

摘要: A simplified low cost, low wear, sheet registration and feeding system for laterally (side) registering a sheet without frictional drive slippage against the sheet and while maintaining feeding control in the primary forward feeding direction of the sheet. The sheet may be fed both forward and laterally (towards a side guide edge for side registration) utilizing only multiple sheet-engaging rotatable ellipsoidal rollers angularly mounted around the periphery of a fixed angle rotating hub member. The sheet-engaging rollers rotate with the hub member to so feed the sheet, but are also rotatable about their own, different, axes of rotation, which axes are parallel to the forward feeding direction of the sheet and the side guide to allow the sheet-engaging rollers to roll after side registration is achieved to prevent excessive lateral feeding force and undesirable slippage, smearing and/or wear.

摘要: An inserter system includes a pre-fold accumulator subsystem in which plural sheets are collected before folding and insertion into an envelope. A divert gate is at the upstream side of the pre-fold accumulator to selectively downwardly divert sheets fed in a reverse direction from the pre-fold accumulator. Positioning of the divert gate is controlled by a mechanism that couples the divert gate and a drive shaft that drives a sheet drive belt component of the pre-fold accumulator.

摘要: A method and system for improving the capture of an OCR character region of a postage indicium, wherein the OCR character region may exhibit a defect associated with the production or the reading of the indicium. A plurality of error compensation marks is provided in the proximity of the OCR character region such that the error compensation marks are caused to exhibit one or more changes indicative of the defect of the OCR character region. Thus, the defect in the OCR character region can be identified by detecting the changes in the error compensation marks. Accordingly, the defect in the OCR character region can be compensated for when the OCR characters are interpreted.

摘要: The present invention provides an aligner apparatus which bottom edge aligns documents and separates documents and provides adequate gap between documents for subsequent processing. The an aligner apparatus includes first and second guide walls, forming an alley along the document feed path in which the documents are relieved of interdocument forces allowing bottom edge alignment of the documents with the document feed path. A trap assembly including first and second trap levers is lever mounted along the document feed path on a side of the guide wall and when actuated, cause opposing forces on one-another in order to grab the documents as they move along the feed path in the aligner apparatus so as to control the gap between the documents. It apparatus further provides an adequate gap between documents while reducing noise. Each trap lever has a head portion which is fitted with a resilient pad which is attached to the trap arm in a manner that forms a gap between the head and the pad. The resilient pad and the gap operate to reduce noise created by the trap arm when actuated.

摘要: This invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art by providing a non-contact apparatus for moistening envelope flaps that projects moistening fluid without pumping fluid. The present invention is directed to, in a general aspect, a non-contact envelope flap moistening apparatus which can be installed in a mailing machine apparatus. The apparatus for delivering moistening fluid to an envelope flap comprises: a reservoir containing the moistening fluid; a media partially submerged in the moistening fluid contained in the reservoir; the media wicking a portion of the moistening fluid as the media is moved through the reservoir and the moistening fluid; a drive means operably connected to the media for moving the media through the reservoir; a projecting means for projecting moistening fluid from the media, the projecting means positioned adjacent to the media on a side opposite the envelope flap, and near a portion of the media that is not submerged in the reservoir; and whereby when the projection means affects the media, a portion of the moistening fluid that has been wicked by the media is dislodged from the media forming droplets that travel to and moisten the envelope flap. The projecting means may be a nozzle connected to an air source for blowing air toward the media and towards the envelope flap or it may be an actuator for causing vibration of the media and causing projection of moistening fluid from the media.

摘要: A nudger including apparatus for applying a feed force to a lead mailpiece of the stack of mixed mail to feed the lead mailpiece of the stack along a mailpiece feed path, the applying apparatus being moveable between first and second positions; structure for biasing the applying apparatus against a face of the lead mailpiece thereby generating a stack force against a stack of mixed mail; and a stack advance mechanism for moving the stack of mixed mail so that the face of the lead mailpiece contacts the applying apparatus; wherein at times when the applying apparatus is in the first position the stack advance mechanism moves the stack of mixed mail in the direction of the applying apparatus causing the applying apparatus to move from the first position to the second position against the biasing structure such that the stack force increases causing a corresponding increase in the feed force; and further wherein at times when the applying apparatus is in the second position the stack advance mechanism stops moving the stack of mixed mail and the applying apparatus continuously feeds mailpieces away from the stack of mixed mail along the mailpiece feed path thereby continuously reducing the size of the stack of mixed mail so that the biasing structure gradually moves the applying apparatus from the second position to the first position and the stack force gradually decreases during movement of the applying apparatus from the second position to the first position.
