    摘要: Provided in one aspect is a method of melt blending comprising providing an extruder possessing addition points from a zero point to a 100 point the length of the extruder; adding at least one thermoplastic and at least one curable polymer at the zero to 10 point of the extruder; adding at least one silicone hydride at the 5 to 30 point of the extruder; adding at least one metal catalyst at the 20 to 60 point of the extruder, with the proviso that the metal catalyst is added at least 5 points farther down the extruder than the silicone hydride. Provided in another aspect is a hydrosilylation curative composition comprising a silicone hydride having the formula wherein H is hydrogen, and each R′ is independently selected from hydrogen and C1 to C10 alkyl groups; R″ is selected from C1 to C10 alkyl groups; n is an integer from 5 to 45; and m is an integer from 5 to 45.

    摘要: Low cost, highly weatherable thermoplastic vulcanizates comprising diene or diene/vinylaromatic, and preferably styrene-butadiene rubber, are taught. Weatherability; namely, UV resistance and color-fastness, is improved by the addition of carbon black. It is demonstrated that the addition of carbon black increases the UV resistance of SB rubber based TPVs to a level comparable to EPDM rubber based TPVs, while providing superior color fastness. As a result, lower cost SB rubber may be a preferable rubber for use in TPVs for exterior applications despite a lower inherent UV resistance.

    摘要: A blend of an EPDM made with VNB instead of ENB and specified melt viscosity reducers is imbued with a unique ability to form a processable blend with a polyolefin phase in which PE is present in a major amount by weight relative to PP. In the substantially fully cured vulcanizate (TPV) of the blend the ratio of PE to pEPDM is in the range from more than 1:3 up to about 1:0.6. This blend is made processable with less than 200 phr of a processing oil in presently available commercial processing equipment by using an inert melt viscosity reducer which is compatible with the pEPDM and PE phases without being substantially miscible in either. A preferred melt viscosity reducer is chosen from (a) a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of isotactic poly(1-butene), ethylene-co-1-butene, propene-co-1-butene and ethylene-co-propene-co-1-butene; (b) oils and waxes having a solubility parameter in the range from about 19.5 to 21.5; and (c) a block copolymer of a fatty acid and polyethylene oxide having a melting point lower than 150° C.

    摘要: Poisoning or deactivation of conventional homogeneous catalysts to be used in hydrogenation of the backbone unsaturation in liquid monofunctional and difunctional-terminated conjugated diene polymers, is prevented by reacting a blocking agent compound with the functional end groups present in these polymers. More specifically, subsequent to formation of a selected starting material monofunctional or difunctional-terminated conjugated diene polymer, a suitable blocking agent is reacted with the functional end groups of the polymer enabling relatively inexpensive titanium, iron, cobalt, or nickel-based homogeneous catalysts to be used in hydrogenating the backbone unsaturation of the polymer to a high degree. Subsequent to hydrogenation, the polymer is subjected to conventional hydrolysis using a mineral acid or base to remove the blocking groups and return the hydrogenated conjugated diene polymer to its original functionality.

    摘要: A random copolymer is formed by emulsion polymerization from two monomeric classes. The first monomeric class is a conjugated diene or substituted conjugated diene containing from four to about eight carbon atoms. The second monomeric class is of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkenyl group containing from about two to about eight carbon atoms, and R.sub.2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing from one to about eight carbon atoms.The second monomeric class can be replaced with up to about 20 percent by weight of the general formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sub.3 C wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen or --CH.sub.3 l and X is --OOR.sub.4, --ONR.sub.5 R.sub.6 or --OOR.sub.7 OR.sub.4 wherein R.sub.4 is an alkyl group containing from one to about four carbon atoms, --CH.sub.2 CF.sub.3 or --CH.sub.2 CF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 H, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are alkyl groups independently containing from one to about four carbon atoms and R.sub.7 is an alkylene group containing from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms. The random copolymer thus obtained is hydrogenated in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and a trialkyl aluminum and further in the absence of Lewis acids such as boron trifluoride or boron trifluoride etherate. Additionally, at least one complexing agent is employed for the transition metal catalyst.

    摘要: A copolymer is formed by emulsion polymerization and then hydrogenated to obtain a thermooxidatively stable composition. The copolymer is prepared from two monomer classes. The first monomeric class comprises a fluorodiene of the structure ##STR1## wherein substituent a is independently hydrogen or fluorine, R is hydrogen or a fluoro alkyl group containing from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms and containing at least three fluoro atoms, with the proviso that both R's are not hydrogen, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently fluorine, hydrogen or a fluoro alkyl group containing from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms and containing at least three fluorine atoms.The second monomeric class is (a) a hydrocarbon diene comprising a conjugated diene, a branched conjugated diene or mixtures thereof containing from 4 to about 8 carbon atoms or a mixture of (a) with (b) a monomer of the general formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sub.3 X wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and X is 2-pyridyl, 4-pyridyl, --COOR.sub.4, CONR.sub.5 R.sub.6 or --COOR.sub.7 OR.sub.4 wherein R.sub.4 is an alkyl group containing from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, --CH.sub.2 CF.sub.3 or --CH.sub.2 CF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 H, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are alkyl groups containing from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms and R.sub.7 is an alkylene group containing from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms. The mole ratio of hydrocarbon diene (a): CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sub.3 X (b), when (b) is present, is from 1:7 to about 7:1 and the mole ratio of first monomer:second monomer is from about 4:3 to about 2:3. The copolymer thus obtained is hydrogenated in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and a trialkyl aluminum wherein the alkyl group contains from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms and further in the absence of boron trifluoride or boron trifluoride etherate. Additionally, a complexing agent for said transition metal catalyst is employed and said transition metal catalyst is deactivated after hydrogenation by the use of a second complexing agent, in the absence of air.
