摘要: A vehicular collision detection apparatus includes a bumper reinforcement, a bumper cover, a chamber forming member, a pressure sensor, a pressure changing device, and a chamber state detecting device. The cover is displaceable relative to the reinforcement toward a rear of the vehicle upon collision. The chamber forming member is provided between the reinforcement and the cover and defines a chamber space that is deformable upon displacement of the cover. The pressure sensor senses pressure in the chamber space. The pressure changing device changes pressure. The chamber state detecting device detects whether or not the chamber forming member is broken based on the pressure, which is detected while the pressure changing device is in operation.

摘要: A pedestrian-detecting system mounted on an automotive vehicle includes a touch sensor for detecting a first touch of an object at a collision, an acceleration sensor for detecting deceleration at a collision, a calculator to which outputs of sensors are fed, and an electronic control unit for activating a pedestrian-protecting device when the calculator determines that the vehicle collides with a pedestrian. A time period T from the first touch detected by the touch sensor to a time when deceleration detected by the acceleration sensor reaches its peak is compared with a threshold time period Tth. If the time period T is longer than the time period Tth, it is determined that the vehicle collided with a pedestrian.

摘要: A collision detection device is provided with a coil which is arranged at an inner side of an outer panel of a body portion of a vehicle and faces the outer panel to generate a magnetic field in a direction toward the outer panel, and a collision determining unit for determining a collision with the body portion of the vehicle based on a variation of an inductance of the coil. The collision determining unit includes a resonance circuit which is constructed of the coil. When there occurs a collision with the vehicle body portion, a distance between the outer panel and the coil will decrease so that an inductance of the coil can instantly decrease. Therefore, a resonance frequency of the resonance circuit will increase and be detected, thus shortening the response time.

摘要: A vehicle collision detecting device includes a capacitor type sensor mounted on a portion of the vehicle, a resonant circuit connected to the sensor by a lead wire and a microcomputer for judging a collision with an object and a breakdown of the lead wire. The sensor has a pair of plate electrodes and a dielectric member disposed between the electrodes so that its capacitance changes if the sensor is crushed. The resonant circuit is constituted of an oscillator generating an ac signal of a fixed frequency, a coil and a diagnostic capacitor. The microcomputer judges which of collision and wire breakdown takes place based on the voltage appears on the lead wire when the oscillator generates the signal of a fixed frequency.

摘要: An occupant detection system determines a seat occupancy condition including occupancy of a vehicle seat and a size of the occupant, that is, an adult or a child. The determined seat occupancy condition is sent to an air bag ECU as seat occupancy condition data used for air bag deployment. The system detects a velocity of the vehicle and compares it with a predetermined velocity threshold. When the velocity is equal to or lower than the threshold, the seat occupancy condition is determined and the determined condition is stored in a storage area as seat occupancy condition data. When the velocity is over the threshold, the stored seat occupancy condition date is send to the air bag ECU.

摘要: An obstacle discrimination device for a vehicle includes an absorber arranged at a front surface of a bumper reinforce member in a bumper cover of the vehicle, a pressure detection unit, a vehicle velocity detection unit and an obstacle judgment unit. The absorber has therein at least one chamber, in which fluid is sealed. A pressure in the chamber which varies due to a collision of an obstacle with a bumper of the vehicle is detected by the pressure detection unit. A pedestrian is distinguished according to whether or nor the pressure exceeds a threshold value related to a velocity of the vehicle detected by the vehicle velocity detection unit.
