Also disclosed is another light emitting device including a pair of electrodes at least one of which is transparent or semi-transparent, and a phosphor layer arranged between the pair of electrodes. In this light emitting device, the phosphor layer contains phosphor particles dispersed therein, and at least one of the pair of electrodes is provided with a brush-like electrode projecting towards the phosphor layer. The brush-like electrode may be provided on the electrode on the positive electrode side, and the brush-like electrode provided on the electrode on the positive electrode side may preferably have a work function of 4.5 eV or more.

A magnetic head is provided with a protective film of chromium nitride on its sliding surface. The film thickness is set to have no adverse effect upon the electromagnetic conversion characteristics of the head, and the film has sufficient wear resistance not only against a magnetic tape having its sliding surface formed of iron oxide or other metallic magnetic substances, but also against a magnetic tape having its sliding surface formed of chrome oxide, the chrome oxide substance having a strong abrasion effect upon the magnetic head. The protective film has a compressive internal stress in a range of 10.sup.9 to 10.sup.11 dynes/cm.sup.2, a Knoop hardness of not less than 1500 kgf/mm.sup.2, a nitrogen composition ratio in a range of 20 to 60 atom %. A perpendicular magnetic storage medium in which a perpendicular magnetic anisotropic film having an easy magnetization axis perpendicular to the plane thereof is formed on a substrate, wherein the perpendicular magnetic anisotropic film is a film of a sub-oxide of Fe-Co alloy, the sub-oxide has a half-value width not less than 0.7 degrees with respect to a diffracted X-ray peak caused by oxide phase observed in X-ray diffraction spectrum, and saturation magnetization in terms of 4.pi.Ms of the film is within a range from 6,000 Gauss to 13,000 Gauss.
