Abstract:
A system for characterizing the temporal luminance response of a liquid crystal display. A liquid crystal display may be forced at an initial time from a first luminance value to a measured second luminance value. The second luminance value may be measured at a predetermined time after the initial time.
Abstract:
An imaging system includes an imaging sensing device sensing an object having a first background color and a backing in opposing relationship with the object having a second background color which is substantially the same as the first background color. The imaging system determines at least one general bounding region of the object based upon a shadow cast onto backing by the object.
Abstract:
A method for compression and decompression of halftoned images using the halftone screen. The method reduces an input binary image into a mean image, uses the halftone screen in combination with the mean image to produce a predicted image. The predicted image is then compared to the original image to produce a residue image. The residue image and the mean image are then compressed and either stored or transmitted. For decompression, the mean image and residue image are decompressed and then used with the halftone screen to arrive at a reconstructed binary image. A prediction process uses the mean image and scales it to a full-size image that has substantially similar dimensions as the original image. It then applies the halftone screen to the full-size image and produces a predicted image.
Abstract:
A method and system implements a high addressability characteristic into an error diffusion process. A histogram of the image is generated and the actual background and black reference values are determined. A gray level value representing a pixel is received. The gray level value has a first resolution which corresponds to an original input resolution. The gray level value is interpolated to generate subpixel gray level values which correspond to a second resolution. The second resolution is higher than the first resolution and corresponds to the high addressability characteristic. A threshold circuit thresholds the interpolated gray level value and generates an error value as a result of the threshold using the determined background and black reference values. The error value has a resolution corresponding to the first resolution. A portion of the error value is diffused to adjacent pixels on a next scanline.
Abstract:
A system for detecting newton ring mura on a display includes sensing an image of the display with an image capture device and determining a border boundary of an illuminated portion of the display. The image is spatially filtered as defined by the border boundary using a filter that reduces sensor noise and a grid pattern of the display. The spatially filtered image is processed to determine if a region proximate a pixel location is a potential newton ring mura defect and characterizing the potential newton ring mura defects to remove at least one of the potential newton ring mura defects.
Abstract:
A method of illuminating a display includes spatially varying the luminance of a multi-colored light source illuminating a plurality of pixels of the display in response to receiving a plurality of pixel values, and varying the transmittance of a light valve of the display having filters corresponding to the multi-colored light source in response to receiving the plurality of pixel values. The illumination is modified for a plurality of pixel values based upon modification of the luminance of the light source and varying the transmittance of the light valve.
