The transfer sheet or web is intended for the use in a heat transfer printing process of cotton, of cotton-polyester blend or of nitrogen containing textile fibers such as wool, silk or nylon.It comprises on its surface at least one organic impregnating agent which has a melting point between 60.degree. and 230.degree. C. and is no polymer, at least one water insoluble, non-subliming dyestuff, and the minimum amount of a binder. The dyestuff forms a pattern or image which is heat contact printed on said textile substrate without the use of carrier vapors or vacuum. The pattern to be heat transferred may also be prepared in an electrophotographic process using a new toner comprising particles of impregnating agent, binder and dyestuff.The pattern on the transfer support is transferred at a temperature between 160.degree. and 230.degree. C. during 30 to 60 seconds to said textile substrate. The printings obtained have very good light, rubbing and washing fastnesses; the handling is not impaired.

The invention discloses a method and a device for the authentication of a document, a valued good or a packaging, carrying a marking (M) exhibiting a viewing-angle dependent light reflection spectrum. The authentication method is based on a measurement of the intensity of light reflected by the marking at least at two different viewing angles in response to a sequential wide-angle illumination with light of different spectral characteristics, and the comparison of the measured intensity values with corresponding reference values. The authentication device (1) has at least two light sources (4) of different spectral characteristics, a wide-angle illumination optics (3), and at least two photodetectors (5) collecting light reflected by said markings at least at two different viewing angles. It may further have a programmed “learning mode” for measuring and storing a set of reflected intensity values of a reference item, and a programmed “testing mode”, for measuring a corresponding set of intensity values on an item to be authenticated and comparing them with the previously stored set of reference values, hereby deriving and indicating a test result.

The invention also concerns a coating composition comprising a short-lived radioactive isotope and the use of a short-lived radioactive isotope as a temporary marking. The temporary mark is applied to the object (O) by the means of a coating composition (3) comprising a low level of a short-lived radionuclide, generated in situ from a longer-lived precursor nucleus. The marking device comprises a radionuclide generator (1), a reservoir (2) for the in situ preparing the radioactively marked printing ink, and an ink-jet or alike printing or spraying head (8), preferably of the dropon-demand type. The marking is preferably detected and identified by a gamma-radiation counter. The invention claims also a system for the temporary marking of an object (O) with a radioactive isotope of predefined life time of minutes to hours, in view of performing an operation on the marked object (O) at a later point in time.

A printing ink for the printing of security documents by the method of engraved steel die printing, having a viscosity of at least 1 Pa.multidot.s at 40.degree. C. under a shear of about 1000 sec.sup.-1, containing a binder matrix, a polymerization initiator for polymerizable matrix components, fillers and pigments, and the usual additives. The binder matrix contains at least one cationically polymerizable compound, modified to bring about the desired rheology of the ink, and the photoinitiator, activable by UV, heat and EB, is an onium salt capable of releasing a Lewis or Bronsted acid.This ink has best and very rapid drying characteristics.
