摘要： A communications device having a user configurable speakerphone feature is provided. A user may be provided with a plurality of selectable settings for configuring the operation of a microphone or the processing of speech. For example, a user may select settings to filter ambient noise for a cleaner sound or increase a microphone's sensitivity in a conference call environment. In one embodiment, the user may select a setting that changes a microphone level or microphone operating range. When the microphone detects speech, the speech may be processed in accordance with user selected processing settings. For example, a user may select settings to specify a gain control, a frequency response, or an activity threshold. Thus, a user may configure a speakerphone to improve sound quality on the receiving end.

In one embodiment, a method includes: storing, in a first handset of a telephone system, quiet mode settings that specify a start time and an end time for a quiet mode signaling feature; wirelessly transmitting, from the first handset of the telephone system to a second handset of the telephone system, the quiet mode settings that specify the start time and the end time for the quiet mode signaling feature; and updating quiet mode settings for the quiet mode signaling feature in the second handset in response to receiving quiet mode settings from the first handset, and wherein the first handset and the second handset of the telephone system self-check the status of their quiet mode settings.

Each handset associated with the cordless telephone system detects an event, such as a noise level that exceeds a threshold noise level, smoke, carbon monoxide, intrusion or moisture level. If an event is detected the system initiates a telephone call through the base unit to an alert telephone number. When the telephone call to the alert telephone number is established, a message is played to provide notification of the event.

An exemplary method comprises applying a bead of liquid sealant around the opening in a telephone handset casing, allowing the bead to partially cure to form a skin yet still having a malleable consistency, and placing the externally facing component against the bead to deform the bead in conformance with the surface of the component, to provide a close seal between the casing and the component.

摘要： A modem adapter is provided to adapt a modem to operate with a telephone system. The modem adapter includes a conductor detector, a voltage generator, and a dial-tone generator. The conductor detector is configured to detect live conductors on a telephone jack. The voltage generator is configured to generate an on-hook line voltage comparable to that normally expected by the modem and to deliver the generated on-hook line voltage to the modem. The dial-tone generator is configured to generate and deliver to the modem a first dial tone different from the second dial tone delivered by a telephone system to which the modem is attempting communication. A method for adapting a modem to a telephone system is also provided.

摘要： A method for reducing interference from a wireless communications system. The interference threshold is set based on a quality criterion that can be measured during operation of the system. The quality criterion is measured during system operation. Preferably, a separate quality criterion measurement is performed for each of an uplink and a downlink of the wireless communications system. The quality criterion is compared to the information containing the set interference threshold. A breach of the interference threshold for the uplink or the downlink is determined when the measurement indicates that the measured quality criterion is sufficiently poor that operation of the system should be modified. Upon determination of an interference breach in either the uplink or downlink, the system initiates an asymmetric enhanced mode operation in which redundant data transmission is established over the link exhibiting the interference breach, while standard, non-redundant transmission continues on the other link.
