Abstract:
A heated water valve provides electrical resistance heaters placed within flange connections of the valve to provide for an integrated heater valve assembly with good heat conduction and spreading capabilities that can prevent water valve freezing at low temperatures.
Abstract:
A dispersing agent or dispersant formed as a block copolymer for use in surface coating compositions, such as architectural paint compositions, that can alter its properties as a result of changes in environmental conditions is provided. These stimuli-responsive copolymers are synthesized with properties that can be controlled based on number of blocks and block length and/or as a function of pH and temperature. The addition or these copolymers to coating compositions including other additives, such as pigments and/or fillers, can decrease settling rate, control viscosity, and control interfacial activity of the additives in the compositions.
Abstract:
An improved chemical probe for the detection of the amino acid citrulline combines: 1) a reactive head formed of 1,3-dicarbonyl moiety that reacts with a citrulline side chain in an improved manner compared to currently used 1,2-dicarbonyl moieties; and 2) a modular action of the probe where citrulline side chains are labeled first using reactive heads described above, and attachment of a read-out subunit or tag, be it a fluorophore, a nanoparticle, or an antigen is performed separately. The modular nature of the chemical probe increases the sensitivity of the probes due to their smaller size. Additionally, the chemical probes of the present disclosure allow the same sample to be analyzed using a variety of read-out methods.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system of wind turbines connected to a single unit electric generator to produce electrical power whereby the wind turbine blades rotate coaxially with a main rotor shaft instead of perpendicular to the shaft axis. In this respect, the wind turbine rotor can face the wind from any direction and does not need to be pointed into the wind to be effective, thus, eliminating the need for a yaw system. Moreover, translation of mechanical to torque of the main rotor drive allows the drive components such as the gearbox and generator to be placed near the ground of each wind turbine improving accessibility for maintenance.
Abstract:
A cup for use with those having muscular tremors provides a battery-operated gyroscope stabilizing the cup body as supported by a handle communicating with the cup body through one or more pivot joints. The cup body may also be weighted to be naturally stabilized in a vertical orientation.
Abstract:
A Peltier system can be retrofit to a standard cooler. A thermal conductive material passes between the cooler lip and the lid to provide a heat pipe communicating between opposed Peltier devices, a first device positioned within the cooler and pumping heat into the heat pipe and a second device positioned outside the cooler and removing heat from the heat pipe.
Abstract:
A building technique uses standard shipping containers as buttresses to support a truss system that may extend between the shipping containers to provide a roof. A sliding connector system attaches the trusses to the shipping containers to accommodate variations in separation of the shipping containers presenting a versatile framing system that is insensitive to site-related variations.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a solvent system comprising a pristine nanoparticle solute suspended in a liquid solvent. The solute is selected from the group consisting of a metal oxide, a mixed metal oxide, a chalcogenide, and a mixed metal chalcogenide; and the solvent system is characterized by a value of chi less than about 0.00.
Abstract:
Various embodiments disclosed relate to bridged phthalocyanine- and napththalocyanine-metal complex catalysts and methods of using and purifying the same. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a method of purifying a catalyst. The method includes contacting a catalyst composition with acid, the catalyst composition including a catalyst, to provide an acidified catalyst composition with the catalyst dissolved therein. The method includes precipitating the catalyst, and removing the precipitated catalyst from solution, to provide a purified catalyst.
Abstract:
Solvents for macromolecules generally believed to be insoluble in their pristine form are identified by generation of a “solvent resonance” in the relationship between solvent quality (deduced by Rayleigh scattering) and an intrinsic property of solvents. A local extreme of the solvent resonance identifies the ideal intrinsic property of an ideal solvent which may then be used to select a particular solvent or solvent combination. A solvent for graphene is used in the production of transparent conductive electrodes.
