Abstract: A variable arc sprinkler head or nozzle may be set to numerous positions to adjust the arcuate span of the sprinkler. The sprinkler head includes an arc adjustment valve having two portions that helically engage each other to define an opening that may be adjusted at the top of the sprinkler to a desired arcuate length. The arcuate length may be adjusted by pressing down and rotating a deflector to directly actuate the valve without the need for a hand tool. A method of irrigation is also provided involving moving the deflector between an arc adjustment position and an operational, irrigation position. The sprinkler head may also include a flow rate adjustment valve that may be adjusted by actuation or rotation of an outer wall portion of the sprinkler. Rotation of the outer wall portion causes a flow control member to move axially to or away from an inlet.

Abstract: A rotary sprinkler system for both above-the ground and pop-up rotary sprinkler systems that controls the rate of nozzle rotation is disclosed. To maintain a relatively constant and controlled nozzle rotation, one or more chamfered spokes are included on the turbine of the sprinkler system. This turbine configuration together with a stator assembly that regulates fluid flow to the turbine control nozzle rotation despite variations in fluid flow. In particular, the chamfered spokes counteract the spin of the turbine in direct relation to the amount of water that bypasses the driving blades of the turbine.

Abstract: A rotary impact sprinkler is disclosed having a nozzle connected to a housing and a discharge deflector member connected to a rotatable shaft assembly without a dynamic seal between the nozzle and the deflector. The sprinkler may be provided with different nozzles and discharge deflectors that are easily removed and replaced for providing desired water flow and discharge characteristics. The shaft assembly and housing may have contacting braking surfaces outside of the water flow. The braking surfaces may provide a frictional braking force dependent on both water flow rate and water flow pressure. The sprinkler has a rotatable impact assembly supported by the shaft assembly and including a deflection member for rotating the impact assembly relative to the shaft assembly. The shaft assembly may have a pin for supporting the impact assembly at a position above the deflection member. A lower portion of the shaft assembly may be positioned in a recess in the housing such that a surface on the shaft assembly contacts a surface in the recess, and a highly wear resistant material may be disposed on the surface of either the shaft assembly or the recess for providing improved wear characteristics. The deflection member of the impact assembly may have a channel that receives a portion of the water stream for rotating the impact assembly, and the channel may expel the water from the sprinkler. The discharge deflector may have a varying profile for discharging water at varying trajectories.

Abstract: A sprinkler includes a riser having a lower end for receiving a pressurized fluid and a nozzle that is mounted at an upper end of the riser for rotation about an axis. A turbine is mounted for rotation inside the riser. A drive mechanism connects the turbine to the nozzle so that rotation of the turbine by the pressurized fluid rotates the nozzle. The sprinkler includes mechanisms for preventing over-spinning of the turbine when the pressurized fluid is air or a mixture of air and water. Damage to the turbine drive shaft or its bearings due to over-spinning of the turbine is thereby avoided. In one version of the sprinkler, the over-spinning prevention mechanism applies a brake force to the turbine. In another version of the sprinkler, the over-spinning prevention mechanism re-directs air or a mixture of water and air around the turbine.

Abstract: A swivel jet assembly 20 for a fluid distribution system delivers high pressure fluid from a pressurized fluid source to an object to be cleaned. A bearing housing 46 is removably affixed to a swivel body 32 having an inlet port 34 and a fluid transmission passageway 36 therethrough. A hollow shaft 40 has an upstream end positioned within the swivel body and a downstream end extending outward for engagement with a nozzle assembly 30. The nozzle assembly is designed for easy service and includes large angle flow distribution passageways for reducing the pressure drop across the nozzle assembly and for producing a desired spray pattern.

Abstract: A hydrotherapy jet assembly that produces rotating and pulsating streams of water and provides for user adjustable flow control, and user adjustable control of the speed of rotation independently of the flow control. The assembly includes a nozzle rotor supported for rotation in a generally cylindrical body, and a rotor retainer cage having a thrust plate that applies an axial retaining force to the rotor. The rotor has two internal passages that discharge water in directions that may be selected to produce a turning moment applied to the rotor. Fins may be incorporated into the rotor to produce or contribute to rotation. In all of the disclosed forms of the rotor, radial thrust components resulting from discharge of water through the two rotor passages cancel each other. Axial thrust components resulting from the discharge of water from the nozzle rotor are substantially balanced by the force of water entering the rotor. A brake washer is installed adjacent to the nozzle rotor and a compression spring applies a controllable braking force to the rotor to control its speed.
