摘要： An insulating cover provides a easily removed thermal barrier over a hatchway used for access to an attic or other unheated area located above a heated living space. A cap, besides providing thermal insulation, provides an insulated dome or pocket space above the hatch, this space being used to manipulate a hatch cover or folding stairway. The seating surface of the insulating cap interlocks with a deck member on the attic floor sufficiently to hold it in place while allowing seepage of air during closing of the hatch cover or folding stairway. It is well known that such closing of a folding stairway of common design can cause an air movement or air rain into the stairwell opening. Only materials with high thermal "R" value are used.

摘要： A ladder having platform steps, the ladder being convertible between a deployed position for supporting a person or other load, to a storage, scaffold, or ramp position in which the steps lie in a generally planar arrangement. When deployed, the ladder steps remain parallel to each other and form a series of parallelograms with the rails of the ladder. The ladder is also capable of being locked or secured at various angles of deployment. The ladder further includes receivers to selectively receive accessories such as wheels, hooks, handles, or pads. The addition of accessories such as wheels allows the ladder in the storage position to be used as a creeper, dolly, or cart.

摘要： A system and method for establishing a safe room environment within an attic space utilizing a typical folding attic stair and door assembly. The system includes components that retrofit to an existing folding attic stair in a manner that allows the user to draw the attic stair up behind them and to secure the attic door panel closed and locked while the user is within the attic space. The components include a retractable lift cord attached to a middle section of the attic stair, and a lift rod attached to the attic door. Brackets and frames positioned on the attic door and door frame allow the user to pull up to fold and raise the stair into the attic space. A lock may then secure the attic stair closed preventing access from below. Methods for installing the system and using the system are provided.

摘要： An inflatable insulator covers an associated attic access hatch to prevent a transfer of heat from a first indoor environment maintaining temperature control and a second indoor environment not maintaining temperature control. The insulator includes at least one air chamber adapted to contain a volume of stationary air. Impermeable layers define the air chamber. 摘要： The instant invention includes a flexible fire-resistant thermally insulated composite structure designed in some embodiments to pass through an opening. The structure may be self-supporting due to the stiffness of various layers, and battens may contribute to the self-supporting capacity of the structure.The flexible composite structure may have a collapsed transit configuration, allowing the structure to be compressed to more easily pass it through an opening, a rotable attachment to allow the structure to rotate away from the opening, and a releasable attachment for attaching the structure around an opening periphery. In another embodiment, the structure may also include a bottom and such a structure could provide shelter in conditions ranging from ambient environmental conditions to the extreme heat of certain fires.The insulative structures of the instant invention are not limited to embodiments designed to rest on generally horizontal surfaces. For example, it may be desirable to utilize such a structure to block an attic fan, or other roof penetration, during certain seasons of the year. Such an embodiment may also include a releasable attachment configured for releasably attaching the installation periphery to a surface inclined from the horizontal.
