Abstract: An exit device that includes a locking mechanism for locking and unlocking a door, the locking mechanism having a latch bolt, and a link connected to the latch bolt, movement of the link between locked and unlocked positions causes movement of the latch bolt between an extended state and a retracted state to lock and unlock the door, and a motor operably connected to the link. A method of operating the exit device includes operating the motor to move the link in a first direction toward the unlocked position, the motor being operated until the link reaches a hard stop position; thereafter determining a soft stop position based on the hard stop position; and thereafter selectively using the motor to move the link in the first direction toward the unlocked position, the motor being operated only until the link reaches the soft stop position.

Abstract: A dogging device includes a base mounted in a housing of a latch assembly. The base includes a hole through which a shaft rotatably extends. A limiting keyway extends from the hole and receives and limits rotation of a shaft key on the shaft. A dogging member includes a through-hole receiving the shaft. A keyway extends from the through-hole and receives the shaft key of the shaft, allowing joint rotation of the shaft and the dogging member. By engaging a tool with a driving groove in an end of the shaft or by utilizing a lock core key to turn a lock core that directly pivots the dogging member, the dogging member is pivotable between a first position engaged with a latching/unlatching control rod of the latch assembly to lock a latch bolt in a retracted state and a second position disengaged from the latching/unlatching control rod.

Abstract: An electronic push retraction exit device includes a support rail, a push rail and a latch mechanism having a latch bolt operably connected to the push rail and movable between latched and unlatched positions. A control circuit in the exit device drives a linear actuator to retract and hold the push rail and the latch bolt in the unlatched position. The linear actuator preferably includes a stepping motor and is connected to the push rail through a lost motion connection allowing the exit device to be mechanically operated without moving the linear actuator. The control circuit preferably includes an electrical adjustment for the retraction distance of the latch bolt and an adjustable relatch timer. The exit device may be operated by a remote switch attached to a control connection, which may be permanently closed to simulate a prior art electrically operated exit device for compatibility with third party control systems.

Abstract: An electronic door lock dogging mechanism is provided with a bolt arranged to move into and out of a door to selectively engage a portion of a door frame to lock a door when extending out of the door and when recessed within the door, unlocking the door from the door frame. A first mechanical element is arranged to normally bias the bolt outwardly relative to the door. A first electrical element is arranged, when energized, to move the bolt into a recessed position in the door to unlock the door. A second mechanical element is arranged to be biased into a dogging position relative to the bolt when the first electrical element has moved the bolt into its recessed position. A third mechanical element is arranged to engage the second mechanical element to move it out of the dogging position when the third mechanical element is moved into a first position. A fourth mechanical element is arranged to bias the third mechanical element into the first position. The third mechanical element is arranged to move with the energization of the second electrical element to move the third mechanical element into a second position, moving the third mechanical element away from engagement with the second mechanical element. A second electrical element is arranged, when energized, to hold the third mechanical element in the second position.

Abstract: A exit bar for securing a door has a housing adapted for mounting to a door. A push pad for receiving a push force is mounted to the housing. A latch extends from the housing to releasably latch the door to which the exit bar is mounted. A link system links the push pad to the latch so that a push force exerted on the push pad releases the latch. An electromagnetic disposed in the housing causes an armature to engage the link system to retract the latch. The exit bar further dogs the latch in the unlatched position as long as the power control system for the electromagnet receives an operate signal and for a preestablished delay time after the operate signal has been removed.

Abstract: An electrically operated exit device comprises a low powered dogging assembly for a pushbar and an electrical actuator for a latch bolt. A latching bracket is attached to the pushbar for movement inwardly and outwardly along a path. A dogging plate of the dogging element is pivotally moveable between a retracted position out of the path of the latching element and an extended position in the path of the latching element. The dogging plate is spring biased toward the extended position and has a protruding shoulder. When the dogging plate is extended and the pushbar moved inward manually, the latching bracket strikes the dogging plate, retracts it slightly against the force of the spring bias and then continues slightly beyond the shoulder of the dogging plate. Then, the doggin plate again extends fully under the influence of the spring bias such that a bearing surface on the far side of the shoulder catches the latching bracket and thereby dogs the pushbar.The electric latch bolt actuator is coupled to a deadbolt by a first linkage assembly and to the latch bolt by the second linkage assembly and simultaneously manipulates the deadbolt and latch bolt to free the door.
