摘要: A mechanism and process for detecting mottle or banding in a developed electrophotographic image. Within an electrophotographic reproduction apparatus 10, a photoconductor is used for receiving and developing a latent image. The photoconductor traverses a path that passes a charging station 28, an exposure station 34, a toning station 38, and a transfer station 46. Either a densitometer 76 for measuring the density of the developed image on the photoconductor, or an electrometer 50a or 50b for detecting the voltage of the image on the photoconductor, detects mottle or banding on the developed image. The densitometer 76 or electrometer 50a or 50b has an aperture small enough to detect mottle or banding with wavelengths perceptible by human eyes. A logic and control unit 24 averages the image density or voltage measurements, calculates the variations of the measurements about the average and the periodicities of the measurements, and if the variations or periodicities indicate mottle or banding is present, changes the operation of one or more stations to reduce mottle or banding.

摘要: There is provided a potential controlling method and potential controller of an image forming apparatus, which can certainly prevent toner and carrier from adhering to the surface of an image bearing body at the time of start and stop of image formation and which can also be applied to an image forming apparatus having a high image forming speed. In the potential controller, at the time of rising or falling of a charged potential of the image bearing body and a developing bias voltage, at least one of the charged potential of the image bearing body and the developing bias voltage is controlled to an objective value through plural stages with the rising or falling of the other occurring through the stages, so that a potential difference between a potential of a non-charged portion of the image bearing body and the developing bias voltage does not exceed a first predetermined value, and a potential difference between a potential of a charged portion of the image bearing body and the developing bias voltage does not exceed a second predetermined value.

摘要: An apparatus for monitoring and controlling electrical parameter of an imaging surface, the monitoring controlling apparatus including a patch generator for recording a first control patch at a first voltage level and a second control patch at a second voltage level on the imaging surface; electrostatic voltmeter for measuring voltage potentials associated with the first control patch and second control patch. A processor, in communication with the patch generator, calculates the electrical parameters of the imaging surface from the measured voltage potentials from the first and second control patches. The processor determines a deviation between the calculated electrical parameters values and setup values. Then, the processor produces and sends a feedback error signal to the patch generator if the deviation exceed a threshold level. The patch generator records a third control patch at a third voltage level on the imaging surface upon reception of the error signal. The ESV senses the third control patch. The processor calculates the electrical parameters of the imaging surface from the measured voltage potential of the third control patch and determines a correction factor. The charging device, exposure system and developer are adjusted in accordance to the correction factor.

摘要: An online printing parameter establishment apparatus is used with a xerographic printing device for printing high quality prints given a target value. The xerographic printing device is capable of producing at least one print control patch on a photoreceptor and is capable of sensing a value of the at least one print control patch. The xerographic printing device has a plurality of sets of inherent performance characteristic values. The online printing parameter establishment apparatus includes a controller device and a switch device. The controller device is operative to produce a first database of different ones of the sensed values. Each sensed value is associated with a respective one of the plurality of sets of inherent performance characteristic values based upon the target value. The controller device is also operative to produce a second database of a plurality of control values. Each one of the control values is extracted from a respective one of the sensed values and the associated set of inherent performance characteristic values. Further, the controller device selects one of the control values which is closely comparable to the target value. A method for online establishment of print control parameters to render high quality prints using a xerographic printing process is also described.

摘要: The present invention, for example, forms a test pattern image on the surface of a photosensitive member at predetermined periodicity and detects the density of said test pattern image. If the detected density value of the test pattern image is other than said target value, the charging voltage is preferentially adjusted to maintain a stable toner density. When the adjusted charging voltage attains either an upper limit or a lower limit, the toner density is adjusted.

摘要: In an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the density of a dot image is stabilized by detecting the toner density of a first standard toner image having toners of a uniform density formed on a photoconductor, adjusting the development bias voltage applied to a development device according to the detected toner density. The adjusted development bias voltage is used to form on the photoconductor a second standard toner image having toners of dots with predetermined spaces there between. Then, an area ratio of dot area to unit area of the second standard toner image is detected and is used to control the image forming conditions of the image forming apparatus to stabilize the density of a dot image.

摘要: In an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the resistance of an transfer material is detected to which a toner image is transferred. The amount of adhered toners of a standard image is detected, and the development bias voltage is controlled according to the detected amount of adhered toners. Then, the transfer voltage is controlled by taking into account the resistance of the transfer material, the charges of adhered toners and the development bias voltage. Thus, the transfer efficiency is stabilized so that a stable image is formed with reproducible colors and densities. For a dot image, an area ratio of a standard dot toner image is detected, and at least one of an amount of charges for charging the photoconductor uniformly, an intensity of the light beam for exposing the photoconductor and the development bias voltage is controlled according to the detected area ratio.
