Abstract:
A base for supporting an image forming apparatus at a predetermined level is constructed by a plurality of units which have the same height and can be removably piled up on each other. At least one of the units may have a drawer and may house a function-adding device which adds a new function to the apparatus when the apparatus is supported on the unit. The device may be a paper reversing machine or an additional paper sheet feeding machine. Each device housed in the unit has a conveying mechanism and a supplying mechanis. The supplying mechanism is connected to an introduction mechanism of the image forming apparatus when the apparatus is mounted on the device, and supplies a paper sheet to the introduction mechanism of the apparatus. Each device further has an introduction mechanism, which is connected to the supplying mechanism of another function-adding unit when the function-adding unit is supported on another such unit.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus has a sheet handling section for receiving sheets printed at a copying machine, which is operable in a mode of ejecting printed sheets outside and in a mode of collecting printed sheets inside thereof to process the sheets. The apparatus comprises a sheet path located inside the apparatus, which is openable so that a jammed sheet can be removed; an outside cover which is openable so that an operator can gain access to the sheet path; a sensor for detecting whether the outside cover is in an open state or a closed state; a jam detector for detecting the occurrence of a sheet jam at each part in the sheet path; a jam reacting device; a jam reaction resetting device; and a mode selector. The jam reaction resetting device is operable in a first jam reaction react mode wherein the jam reaction resetting operation is executed in response to an outside cover close signal generated from the outside cover sensor, and in a second jam reaction reset mode wherein the jam reaction resetting operation is executed in response to the recovery of the sheet path from the sheet jam. The mode selector selects either the first jam reaction reset mode or the second jam reaction reset mode beforehand.

Abstract:
In an image forming apparatus provided with both-side copying and overcopying functions, a copied paper is fed into a paper stacking unit before being fed again. In the conventional paper stacking unit, since the unit is disposed horizontally, there exists a problem in that paper is not well aligned, thus resulting in paper jamming, double paper feeding, etc. To overcome this problem, the paper stacking unit is disposed with an inclination angle paper feed-out side up. For further improving paper feed reliability, the stacking unit includes a paper lifting device, a paper side alignment device, and a paper curl correcting device.
Abstract:
An electrostatic copying apparatus and an auxiliary unit detachably mounted on the electrostatic copying apparatus to diversify the mode of image formation. The electrostatic copying apparatus includes a paper conveying passage, a paper feed means for feeding paper to the paper conveying passage and a paper feed passage having its downstream end connected to the paper conveying passage, and a copied image is formed on one surface of paper while it is conveyed through the paper conveying passage after being introduced into the conveying passage from the paper feed means or the paper feed passage. The auxiliary unit includes a paper moving passage whose upstream end is to be selectively connected to the downstream end of the paper conveying passage of the copying apparatus and a paper stock means whose upstream end is connected to the downstream end of the paper moving passage and whose downstream end is connected to the upstream end of the paper feed passage of the copying apparatus. The copying paper introduced into the paper conveying passage from the paper feed means in the electrostatic copying apparatus and conveyed through the paper conveying passage is selectively introduced into the paper moving passage of the auxiliary unit and then fed into the paper stock means of the auxiliary unit. Thereafter, the paper is introduced into the paper conveying passage of the copying apparatus from the paper stock means via the paper feed passage of the copying apparatus.
