In some embodiments, the tactile system may obtain environmental data (e.g., lighting data, presence data, etc.) for an environment (in which the display is located) and perform the adjustment of the positions of the carbon nanotube-based components based on (i) the tactile data and (ii) the environmental data.

The present system and method provides for a new digital media paradigm enabling tight choreography of motion, content and, time able to be presented on a variety of hardware platforms consisting of robotic control of a multiplicity of display screens in the form of a movable array of 2 or more LCDs, LEDs, OLEDs, etc., with the movement and placement of each display achieved by one multi-axis manipulator arm mechanism. Motion control is achieved through software programmed onto one or more controller systems, and the corresponding tools necessary for creative visual designers to produce content meeting this new paradigm are also proposed. Each arm/display screen combination is kept aware of its positioning in physical space, relative to the positioning of each and every other arm/display screen at all times, in order to prevent collisions. The preprogrammed software control takes the form of a choreographed playlist of movements, content, and time that match the desired positioning of the array of display screens, in order to achieve the desired dynamic presentation of custom-produced digital content that will be presented across the array, in a fully coordinated fashion.

Apparatus for controlling an image display device having at least one element with a reflective state in which incident light undergoes total internal reflection and a non-reflective state in which the total internal reflection is prevented. A member is positioned adjacent the element for deformation of the member between a first position in which a gap remains between the member and the element and a second position in which the member is in optical contact with the element. The apparatus incorporates a support structure having one or more display chambers. Each display chamber contains one of the elements and members aforesaid. A first aperture is provided in the support structure for air communication between the display chamber and a second chamber provided in the support structure. A preferably elastomeric valve member is provided in the second chamber, for deformation of the valve member between a closed position in which the valve member is biased against the first aperture to prevent air communication through the first aperture and an open position in which the valve member is biased away from the first aperture to permit air communication through the first aperture. A second aperture is provided in the support structure for air communication against a base of the valve member; and, a third aperture is provided in the support structure for air communication through the second chamber and through the first aperture when the valve member is in the open position.

Apparatus for the display of information comprises an endless band carrying transverse holders each of which carries a plurality of laminae having differently colored front and rear regions. Each lamina may be positioned either to overlap the front region of the succeeding adjacent lamina or to lie behind it so as respectively to obscure or expose this front region. Selection of one or other of these positions of the laminae is secured by passing the band around a pulley of sufficiently small radius so as to spread the holders apart sufficiently for each lamina to be clear of the succeeding lamina and then moving the lamina to one or other position. The laminae may be magnetic and drawn away from the holder by magnets adjacent this pulley into the overlap position. Alternatively the laminae may be driven back against the holder from the overlap position by jets of air. Letters, numerals or other signs may be built up by selective overlapping of the lamina and the information may be displayed statically behind or move across a window as desired. The information may be cleared from the band by passage of the band around a pulley of larger diameter.
