    摘要: The present invention relates to a polymer fuse apparatus that provides bypass fuse protection. A polymer bypass fuse is comprised of an electrical conductor wherein a portion of the conductor is surrounded by an internal electrode, which is then surrounded by a layer of polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material, which is then surrounded by a conductive material similar to that of the internal electrode. Various hybrid combinations are also contemplated where in-line and/or bypass fuses are combined with other circuit components. One example is, a plurality of in-line and bypass fuses combined with a differential and common mode filter, which itself consists of a plurality of common ground conductive plates maintaining first and second electrode plates between the various conductive plates, all of which are surrounded by a material having predetermined electrical characteristics to provide fail safe filter and circuit protection.

    摘要: An electronic device has three conductive polymer layers sandwiched between two external electrodes and two internal electrodes. The electrodes are staggered to create a first set of electrodes, in contact with a first terminal, alternating with a second set of electrodes in contact with a second terminal. The device is manufactured by: (1) providing (a) a first laminated substructure comprising a first polymer layer between first and second metal layers, (b) a second polymer layer, and (c) a second laminated substructure comprising a third polymer layer between third and fourth metal layers; (2) isolating selected areas of the second and third metal layers to form, respectively, first and second arrays of internal metal strips; (3) laminating the first and second laminated substructures to opposite surfaces of the second conductive polymer layer to form a laminated structure; (4) isolating selected areas of the first and fourth metal layers to form, respectively, first and second arrays of external metal strips; (5) forming insulation areas on the exterior surfaces of the external metal strips; and (6) forming a plurality of first terminals, each electrically connecting a metal strip in the first internal array to a metal strip in the second external array, and a plurality of second terminals, each electrically connecting a metal strip in the first external array to a metal strip in the second internal array; and (7) singulating the laminated structure into a plurality of devices, each having three polymer layers connected in parallel between first and second terminals.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a polymer fuse apparatus that provides bypass fuse protection.     摘要: An auxiliary power port such as is found in an automotive vehicle passenger compartment has a receptacle connected with the vehicle electrical system and a tubular, removable sleeve which fits inside the receptacle and receives a standard adapter plug of the type intended for use with automotive power ports. The exterior surface of the sleeve is covered with a layer of positive temperature coefficient (positive temperature coefficient) material, and insertion of the sleeve into the receptacle places the positive temperature coefficient layer in contact with the inner surface of the receptacle. The inner surface of the receptacle, the outer surface of the sleeve, and the positive temperature coefficient layer sandwiched therebetween form a positive temperature coefficient circuit overcurrent protection device. A number of interchangeable sleeves having different hold currents are provided for use with different electrical devices.

The barrier layer, which is preferrably titanium dioxide, resists diffusion of contaminants which would alter the electrical characteristics of the sensing element, while permitting diffusion of oxygen through the barrier layer.

    摘要: A platinum resistance therometer is formed in a process which includes the defining of a path for the resistance thermometer in an inert material deposited in a layer on the substrate. The substrate surface is exposed in the path, and the inert material forms a negative pattern for the path. The resistive material for the thermometer is then deposited on both the substrate surface exposed in the path and on the surfaces of the inert material remaining on the substrate. After this, the inert material is etched away, and the resistive material deposited on top of the inert material is then loose and can be removed leaving a strip of resistive material in the desired path for forming the resistive thermometer. The strip has low contamination and impurities to more easily reach the desired temperature coefficent of resistance of the strip forming the thermometer.
