    摘要: An AC-to-DC converter obtains phase and amplitude signal information from a displacement transducer that is excited by an AC excitation signal and provides an AC sensor signal indicative of transducer position. The converter includes a first rectifier circuit that receives and sums the AC excitation signal and the AC sensor signal, and rectifies the sum to provide a rectified summed excitation and input signal indicative thereof. A second rectifier circuit receives and rectifies the AC excitation signal, and provides a rectified excitation signal indicative thereof. A summing circuit computes the difference between the rectified summed excitation and input signal and the rectified excitation signal, and provides a signed DC signal indicative of displacement transducer position. Advantageously, the AC-to-DC converter of the present invention performs summing and difference functions directly and provides a signed DC signal representative of the AC amplitude and phase input of the transducer output, thus eliminating the need for an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and the support of an associated processor.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for selectively sending a first signal or a second signal to an output signal are described. An electrical characteristic of a device coupled to the output is determined, and, in the event the electrical characteristic is determined to be a predetermined value, the first signal to the output, otherwise, the second signal is sent. A detector coupled to the output of an information handling system detects a characteristic of a device coupled to the output. The characteristic is indicative of the type of signal sent to the output. A first type of signal is sent to the output when the characteristic has a predetermined value and a second type of signal is sent to the output when the characteristic does not have the predetermined value. Whether a speaker is an analog speaker or a digital speaker may be automatically determined, and an appropriate analog or digital signal is sent to the speaker depending upon its type.

The converter circuit desirably includes a signal modulator circuit having an input terminal coupled to the input terminals of the converter circuit and an output terminal to produce an intermediate digital voltage signal and a signal sampler circuit having an input terminal corresponding to the output terminal of the signal modulator circuit and an output terminal corresponding to the output terminal of the converter circuit.

    摘要: A speaker driving circuit including a switch which switches the supplying of current to a speaker on and off by using a binary pulse-density-modulated (PDM) signal produced by .DELTA..SIGMA.-modulating a digital audio signal from a digital low-pass filter. For example, when the PDM signal is "1", the switch causes the output current of the direct-current power source to flow to the voice coil. On the other hand, when the PDM signal is "0", the switch stops the current to flow to the voice coil. This switch may be replaced with a switch which switches the direction of current flowing through the voice coil. The diaphragm of the speaker is driven by controlling the supplying of current in such a manner. With this arrangement, since a D/A converter for a digital audio signal is not required, there is no need to install an amplification circuit for an analog signal. Thus, the speaker driving circuit has a simplified structure but is capable of driving the speaker stably.

    摘要: A speaker driving device applies a constant voltage of a constant voltage source to a pair of voice coils alternatively by switching the direction of applying the constant voltage based on a binary PDM signal. A .DELTA..SIGMA. modulator produces the binary PDM signal by .DELTA..SIGMA.-modulating a digital audio signal from a digital low-pass filter. The constant voltage is applied to a first voice coil in one direction and is applied to a second voice coil in the reverse direction by switching the direction of applying the constant voltage. The first and second voice coils forms the pair of voice coils. This arrangement causes a current to flow through the first and second voice coils in opposite directions and a diaphragm of a speaker to be driven in two directions opposite to each other. As a result, the speaker is driven more efficiently. Moreover, since the switching of the direction of applying the constant voltage is performed by changing the connections between the constant voltage source and the pair of voice coils, a switching circuit with a simplified structure is used.
