摘要: A food contained in a can is heated by a reaction of quicklime with water in an envelope adjacent to that containing the food. According to the invention, in addition to overburnt quicklime, there is used an amount of quicklime having a high or medium reactivity comprised between about 6% and 75% by weight with respect to the total weight of lime. It is also known to use, for the same purpose, quicklime having a low reactivity called "overburnt quicklime", i.e. quicklime having a reactivity with water which has been reduced by calcination at a temperature of more than about 1150.degree. C. The use of such an overburnt lime is necessary. Due to its moderate reaction it allows to obtain a good heat transmission during a long period, to avoid projections of lime milk as well as a loss of heat by emission of water vapor.

摘要: A self-heating receptacle comprising a vessel for food to be heated, and below the vessel a sealed container containing two chemicals, e.g. quick lime and water. A pouch within the container holds one of the chemicals sealed from the other. A tearing filament secured to the pouch simultaneously opens the pouch and the container thereby to trigger the exothermic reaction to heat said food vessel. The pouch is suspended by its ends above the bottom of the container and is surrounded by said other chemical. There is an outer housing in the bottom of which the container is disposed, the food vessel being disposed in the top of this housing. The container is hermetically sealed with a lid. The tearing filament extends across the lid below the bottom of the food vessel and emerges from between the housing and the food vessel in a portion that can be grasped by the user to pull on the tearing filament thereby both to open the pouch and to tear the lid.

摘要: This invention relates to a device for heating food contained in a sealed container, such as a tin, can or carton, without use of external heat. The device comprises at least one sealed container surrounded by an envelope forming an annular chamber containing quicklime and water separated by a wall which can be easily pierced or torn, so as to allow a contact of the water with the quicklime, said annular chamber containing quicklime the reactivity of which has been previously reduced, as well as an amount of water which is larger than the amount necessary for the hydration reaction of the quicklime. The reactivity of the quicklime has been reduced by calcination at a temperature of more than about 900.degree. C. and preferably comprised between about 1100 and 1400.degree. C. according to the desired reactivity degree. The amount of water contained in the annular chamber surrounding the sealed container is comprised between about 0.75 and 3 parts by weight for 1 part by weight of quicklime. The water necessary for the exothermic reaction with the quicklime having a reduced reactivity is contained in a sealed annular bag which can be easily torn or pierced, said bag being placed above quicklime grains.

摘要: A heat transfer unit in which a receptacle is in containing relation to a substance which may be a food or drink product and is further in containing relation to chemicals in a segregated relation to the product and which when activated have a heating or cooling effect thereon. The product the temperature of which is to be controlled is held in a heat conductive container suitably installed to dispose interiorly of the receptacle. An ampule is in the receptacle and when broken disseminates a fluid activating the chemicals to produce the heating or cooling effect. The ampule is a frangible vessel positioning intermediate the container and deformable wall and shaped substantially in conformance therewith. An impact or hand applied pressure delivered to the deformable receptacle wall breaks the ampule upon the container.
