摘要： A portable heat transfer unit characterized by a multi-walled container. The container is so formed that wall portions thereof define therein separate pockets or chambers. Disposed in said pockets and separated by said wall portions are at least two separate types of material, the material to be treated and heat transfer material, the latter being activated, when required, by a simple manipulation of the container.

摘要： A composition for producing heat when contacted by water at a relatively uniform temperature up to about 260* F without appreciable generation of steam consisting essentially of a particulate primer material which is exothermic when contacted by water, a particulate inorganic oxide or salt which is highly exothermic when contacted by water, and a film-forming component which encapsulates the primer and inorganic oxide or salt in the dry state. A preferred primer is anhydrous calcium chloride, a preferred inorganic oxide is calcium oxide, and a preferred filmforming component is a combination of positively charged guar gum and anhydrous sodium tetraborate. A method and apparatus especially adapted for use of the composition are disclosed, in the heating of a packaged food product.

摘要： A heat transfer unit in which a receptacle is in containing relation to a substance which may be a food or drink product and is further in containing relation to chemicals in a segregated relation to the product and which when activated have a heating or cooling effect thereon. The product the temperature of which is to be controlled is held in a heat conductive container suitably installed to dispose interiorly of the receptacle. An ampule is in the receptacle and when broken disseminates a fluid activating the chemicals to produce the heating or cooling effect. The ampule is a frangible vessel positioning intermediate the container and deformable wall and shaped substantially in conformance therewith. An impact or hand applied pressure delivered to the deformable receptacle wall breaks the ampule upon the container.
