摘要: An apparatus (10) for a trailer (12) that has a trailer skirt (32,36) in which the majority of its outer surface length is oriented at an angle from 3 degrees to 7 degrees to the longitudinal direction and extends inboard in the lateral direction upon extension forward in the longitudinal direction. An aerodynamic mud flap (22) is present and configured for being located rearward of the trailer skirt (32,36) in the longitudinal direction. The aerodynamic mud flap (22) has a barrier section (24) that includes apertures therethrough that allow air and particles to flow during travel of the trailer (12). A top fairing (26) is present and is configured for being attached to a top surface of the trailer (12). The top fairing (26) is configured to be located closer to the rearward terminal end of the trailer (12) than to the forward terminal end of the trailer (12) in the longitudinal direction. The apparatus (10) also has a rib cover (74).

摘要: A method for reducing an amount of aerodynamic drag generated within a rear area of a vehicle may include attaching a plurality of devices to a surface of the vehicle, the plurality of devices being positioned such that at least two of the plurality of devices are parallel to each other, where each of the plurality of devices includes flat and tapered surface regions, the device is positioned in the rear area of the vehicle, and the at least two of the plurality of devices cause an air stream passing between the at least two of the plurality of devices to increase in speed before the air stream is turned inward to a vacuum formed behind the vehicle.

摘要: The approach to the current problem of plastic deformation on the walls of the transportation truck is the development of a tribodynamic cell. This geometrically manufactured shape is able to reduce the force of more than 60.00% in a truck, more than 80.00% as a unit cell at standard speeds, and 90.00% at sonic range velocities. This reduction signifies an economic savings in fuel, service life of the transportation system, as well as reducing the carbon footprint locally and worldwide. Strategically, the tribodynamic cell embodiments convert the immediate surrounding airflow into a surface capable of lowering friction drastically and achieving supersonic speeds in half the time compared to a surface without the geometrically enhanced approach.

A housing is connected to the upper surface of the liftgate. There is a moveable panel connected to the housing using a connection. The connection is formed by a four bar linkage that forms a portion of the connection between the moveable panel and the housing. An actuator, which in one embodiment is a single rotary actuator is connected to the four bar linkage and causes the movement of the moveable panel.

The first top portion includes a first engagement element and the second top portion includes a second engagement element, the first engagement element being configured to engage the second engagement element when the first top portion is deployed by the at least one actuator such that the first top portion draws the second top portion outwardly as the first top portion is deployed.

摘要: An ionic airflow management system for a motor vehicle includes a controller, a power supply in communication with the controller, at least one exterior component of a motor vehicle having an integral electrode in electrical communication with the power supply, the integral electrode comprising a cathodic terminal portion and an anodic terminal portion oriented relative to a managed airflow vector, and at least one sensor in communication with the controller, the at least one sensor including a speed sensor. The power supply receives signals from the controller to supply a predetermined amount of electrical power to the integral electrode based on a threshold speed detected by the speed sensor in an active mode. The power supply receives signals from the controller to switch off electrical power to the integral electrode below the threshold speed in an inactive mode.

The strut portion is configured to resiliently buckle between a buckled position upon the skirt panel undergoing a force exceeding a threshold value toward the strut member and an original position when no force is applied and when the skirt panel is undergoing a force that is less than the threshold value.
