摘要: A surface area of a structure is fabricated with a textured surface that reduces the surface wear rate or erosion caused by a high speed flow of fluid containing abrasive particles over the surface area. More particularly, a leading edge surface such as a rotor leading edge surface, an aircraft airfoil leading edge surface, a propeller leading edge surface, etc. is fabricated with a textured surface comprised of a plurality of grooves that alter or break up a high speed flow of fluid containing abrasive particles over the textured surface. The grooves are contacted by the high speed flow of fluid containing the abrasive particles and alter or break up the flow of fluid and abrasive particles and thereby reduce surface wear rate or erosion of the structure leading edge.

摘要: A heat dissipation system that includes a structure having a surface with a cavity recessed on the surface. A wing or channel causes a vortex to occur in the cavity. Destabilizers, such as projections or recesses are disposed on the sidewall of the cavity to disrupt the local surface boundary layer that forms in the cavity. Alternatively, a plurality of freely moving bead elements are disposed in the cavity to disrupt the local surface boundary layer. A cover can be included that prevents the bead elements from exiting the cavity.

摘要: The invention relates in general to surfaces along which media, such as gases, liquids or multi-phase mixtures are flowing, especially to a device for transportation of a flowing medium and/or for heat exchange between a flowing medium and the device, and methods of producing and using such devices. Disclosed is a surface or layer having dimples, the edges of which are rounded, thereby forming a central dimple area and at least one curvature area for each dimple which continuously connects the dimple to the surrounding surface for reducing particle deposition and ice formation on a surface along which a medium flows.

摘要: Formations on the surface of bodies for reducing the drag relative to a medium which the body is located in or close to. The formations comprise a plurality of cavities (1,20,40,60). The surface in which the cavities are formed is closed. The cavity has a disruption edge (5,25,44,66) adjacent to the cavity, with the disruption edge located upstream of the cavity, so as to set the flowing medium most proximal to the surface into turbulence upon passing the disruption edge. The cavity has a maximum depth from the surface of at least approximately 2 mm.

摘要: Sheath (20, 21) with specially designed artificial rugosity (18, 19), to be put on structures and objects (10) submerged in a flow (12) and leaning on a scourable bottom, such as piers and abutments of bridges, pipelines, and others. The rugosity diminishes the intensity of the secondary flow that occurs in the border of attack of the structure and also reduces the turbulent wake; as a result, there is a decrease in the local scour that can put the mentioned structures at risk. The sheath also reduces the drag force due to the relative movement of the structure (10) in relation to the liquid medium, so it can be applied to moving objects in a liquid medium at rest. The sheath may have an efficient streamlined profile that produces an additional decrease of the scour and the drag force; it may also include a mechanism to turn the sheath automatically, if the flow has variable direction.
