摘要:
A transportation system, particularly for handling containers for transport by rail vehicles, lorries or ships, includes an elevated guideway comprising a plurality of spaced parallel longitudinal tracks connected by tranverse tracks which are movable along the longitudinal tracks. Vehicles travel along the tracks and are equipped with hoists for lifting containers beneath the guideway into the vehicles. Each vehicle is equipped with lower wheels which run on rails on the longitudinal tracks and upper wheels which run on high level guides on the transverse tracks. When it is wished to transfer the vehicle from one track to another at a junction this may be effected by stopping the vehicle at the junction engaging the appropriate wheels with the guides or rails, as the case may be, on the other track and then continuing movement along that other track. By suitable location of the transverse tracks and movement of the vehicle, containers can be picked up or deposited at any position within the total area covered by the guideway. There may be mounted at one side of the guideway a movable gantry on to which vehicles may be transferred from the guideway for transporting containers into and out of ships.

This invention improves and extends the utility of the system disclosed in my U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,483,829 and 3,484,022 wherein containers are transferred to and from trains passing along under an overhead carrier and manually and/or automatically routed and stored; wherein my present improvement comprises: a reorganized and redesigned station with improved automatic container handling, storage and transfer for freight containers or trailers of a length and twice the length such as 20 and 40 ft. containers using storage spots, gantries, freight cars and carriers each for taking containers or trailers of either length; a low and/or high level double dip transfer run over the railway to dip the carriers level to transfer freight and passenger containers level between cars in a train passing under the dip and container carriers on the dip, the dip having a separate track down and up for front and rear trucks or wheels on carrier and automatic vertical switches for opening or bypassing this double dip and for switching carrier trucks to their respective tracks at top and bottom of the dip, safety dip bypass control, station with carrier track extending over a gantry for transfer of the long and short containers and trailers between stationary storage spots over which the gantry runs and the carriers above; the overhead transfer of both freight trailers and/or containers and passenger containers on the same transfer dip to and from the same train while passing the transfer dip; conveyors for moving passenger containers forward on car in train and to rear on carrier at station to simplify placement of containers, shielded open side passenger containers for quicker movement of people on car and at station; a subway type station for rapid transit public and private containers for passengers, freight, mail, express, etc. having carriers run parallel over conveyor to lift containers from carrier to move thereon from front to rear or therefrom for storage and reloading on carriers to insert in empty spots on cars in train traveling between stations; long transfer dip bottom between subway stations to reduce tunneling; two rows of passenger containers side by side per car both with or without center aisle for individual sized containers (six passenger) or/ and larger public or private passenger or freight containers, and buildings for these containers serving as hotel rooms, house containers, traveling offices, shops, concessions, storage, etc.

A cargo handling mechanism for use on an enclosing structure, such as a railroad car or the like, for loading cargo into or unloading cargo from the car. The cargo handling mechanism is preferably mounted in a vertical orientation for lateral movement, and has a door that is vertically movable to a selected position, and then pivotally movable in the selected position between open and closed positions. The cargo handling mechanism is a self-contained unit containing the controls and power source for laterally moving the mechanism, and vertically and pivotally moving the door. The lateral movement of the mechanism is desirable for horizontally aligning the door with a desired cargo space in the enclosing structure. Once aligned, the vertical movement of the door is desirable for aligning the lower end of the door with the cargo-supporting surface in the enclosing structure. The door is pivotally movable from a normaly closed position, in which it blocks entry to the enclosing structure and assumes a compact position for transport and handling of the mechanism, to an open position, in which the door forms a platform over which cargo may be loaded into or unloaded from the enclosing structure.

The disclosed system is applicable to towed or powered cargo vessels. Central to one of its three distinct cargo handling phases, the system features an open staging deck on the vessel to and from which cargo is moved by way of a ramp that can be lowered directly to the beach. Practical vessel design and ramp length permitting the vessel to remain afloat during such cargo transfers are achievable with special beach grades, variable ballasting of the vessel and adjustable slope of its loading ramp. Sidewise cargo transfer at a dock is also permitted, as are transship transfer operations by the same vessel. Central to a second of the three cargo-handling phases is an overarching three-directional crane-moving individual cargo units successively between the staging deck and elongated cargo stowage cells. The cells are arranged in tiers and extend longitudinally of the vessel with entrance ends preferably in a common vertical crane transfer plane adjacent to the staging deck. The cargo cells have individual conveyors, which function in the third of the three cargo-handling phases to move the inserted cargo units between successive stowed positions along the cells and crane transfer position at the cell entrances. With the total sequence of handling operations thus divided into these three phases and programmed large numbers of cargo units may be loaded and unloaded in a short time. Moreover rearranging of cargo units within or between cells while en route for convenience in subsequent transfer operations between the vessel and the shore or for transshipping is also readily achieved. Also disclosed are cargo unit shuttle conveyors featuring line-controlled cam bar mechanisms driven and controlled from the cell ends through lines to raise, lower and move individual cargo units in the cell.

Load handling equipment comprises vertical support structures between which transport means are mounted to be moved along a horizontal support structure between the vertical support structures to move a load relative to the support structures, and a distance-measuring device capable of generating distance measurement data is mounted in at least one of said support structures. The distance-measuring device is arranged to generate distance measurement data on at least two of the following objects relative to their mounting position, the objects comprising: a vehicle positioned beneath or on a side of the load handling equipment, the door of a vehicle, a person, a load, a reflector and transport means for moving a load.

A frame structure for a multi-level container handling and storage facility 11, which is constructed by an array of basic structures comprising of two rows, R1 and R2, of spaced support columns 21 which are weight bearing. The columns in row R1 are joined respectively by one horizontal beam 25 and similarly the columns in row R2 are joined respectively by a separate horizontal beam 25 to form spaced adjacent beams that now define an intermediate level IL. The rows R1 and R2 of spaced support columns 21 are spaced at a distance allowing storage of at least one container therebetween below the intermediate level IL. The spaced adjacent horizontal beams 25 are at a distance matching the dimension of a container allowing storage of at least one container thereon above the intermediate level IL.
