摘要: A rotor assembly is provided for deployment within the inner gimbal assembly of a control moment gyroscope (CMG). In one embodiment, the rotor assembly includes a rotor shell, a rotor shaft fixedly coupled to the rotor shell, and a rotor rim. The rotor rim includes an annular body and a strain relief member. A first end portion of the strain relief member is fixedly coupled to the annular body, and a second end portion of the strain relief member is fixedly coupled to the rotor shell to form a rim-shell joinder interface. The strain relief member has a flexibility sufficient to reduce the mechanical stress experienced by the rim-shell joinder interface during operation of the CMG.

摘要: A precessional device having independent control of the output torque generated by the device and the oscillation race of the device is disclosed. The device comprises a rotor supported by an axle wherein the ends of the axle are supported by a circular race. The circular race is rotatable, and may be driven by, for example, a motor, thereby controlling the oscillation rate of the device independently of the output torque arising front the rotation rate of the rotor. The motor may be controlled by a control program that adjusts the rotation rate of the circular race to modify the shape of the resistance curve.

One or more intermediate shields are freely disposed within an outer shield, and an inner shield is freely disposed within the intermediate shields. 摘要: Methods and apparatus are provided for reorienting control moment gyros (CMGs) to compensate for CMG failure or change in spacecraft (S/C) mass properties or mission. An improved CMG comprises a drive means for rotating the CMG around an axis not parallel to the CMG gimbal axis. Releasable clamps lock the CMG to the spacecraft except during CMG array reorientation. CMGs arrays are combined with attitude sensors, a command module, memory for storing data and programs, CMG drivers and sensors (preferably for each CMG axis), and a controller coupling these elements. The method comprises determining whether a CMG has failed or the S/C properties or mission changed, identifying the working CMGs of the array, determining a new array reorientation for improved spacecraft control, unlocking, reorienting and relocking the CMGs in the array and updating the S/C control parameters for the new array orientation.

摘要: A gyroscopic rate sensor has a motor driven shaft on which is mounted a flexible disc rotor enclosed in a gas-filled housing with a rotating rigid plate, also mounted on the shaft, to provide viscous gaseous restraint. A rotating capacitive plate assembly referenced to the drive motor spin axis provides a stable electrical output signal proportional to periodic deflections of the disc rotor. By perforating the disc rotor near the spin axis, spring restraint is minimized while the squeeze film damping provides improved dynamic response.

摘要: Flexible-hub magnetic gyro wheel including a ring member comprising ferromagnetic material or the like and including a plurality of alternating magnetic poles circumferentially spaced about the ring member, a flexible hub affixed to the interior of the ring, and structure rigidly attaching the flexible hub to a drive shaft, such as the shaft of a motor or a shaft driven by a motor or other drive structure. The structure for rigidly attaching the flexible hub to a shaft consists of a set collar and a set washer on opposing sides of the center of the hub material whereby the set collar and set washer support the magnetic gyro wheel on an axially rotating shaft. The magnetic gyro wheel is suitable for use in a rate of turn indicator, a gyro, or other like instrument designed to sense and respond to a rate of turn or angular velocity applied to the instrument at a right angle to the spin axis of the magnetic gyro wheel. The magnetic gyro wheel can comprise one or more rings of magnetic material magnetized with alternating poles with the flexible hub attached thereto or can be fabricated from a plurality of magnets held together in such a way as to achieve the characteristics of the magnetized ring or rings described above. As one alternative the magnetic gyro wheel can also be made of a flexible magnetic material magnetized with alternate magnetic domains on one or both sides of the wheel or upon the periphery of the wheel.
